Mark Gerard Forgue, 64, of Windsor, Colorado was called home to our Lord on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Anschutz Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado following complications from a double lung transplant.
Mark was born January 8, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan to parents Richard and Jean (Steinmetz) Forgue. He graduated from Bishop Gallagher High School in 1978. He went on to study fire science in hopes of following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, who were both Detroit firefighters. Ultimately, he shifted his focus to law enforcement and began his career as a police officer with the Houston Police Department where he served as a patrol officer from 1981-1985.
Mark met the love of his life Audrey (Ozambela) Forgue in 1980 and the two were married in Panama City, Florida in 1982. In 1985, the couple moved to Greeley Colorado, where Mark accepted a position with the Greeley Police Department and served for 34 years. During his time with GPD, Mark served in various positions including patrol officer, D.A.R.E. instructor, Field Training Officer, Gang Task Force, SWAT Team, Neighborhood Action Team, and Weld County Santa Cops President, before retiring in 2019 and moving to Windsor in 2021.
Mark was a dedicated family man and devoted friend. He lived his life in service of his community and of those he loved. He was a long-time member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the parish Finance Council, attended World Youth Day 2000 as a youth chaperon, took part in mission trips to the Granja Hogar orphanage in Chihuahua, Mexico and was a graduate of the Archdiocese of Denver Catholic Biblical School. He was an avid outdoorsman and marksman, taking his family on many camping trips. He enjoyed Fall black powder hunting up the Poudre Canyon, fishing solo on his belly boat or weeklong canoe trips to the Boundary Waters with friends. He was a skilled marksman, both professionally as a sniper, and as a hobbyist in his free time. He fostered long lasting friendships, always making time for catching up, coffee, debates, or a laugh. He leaves a lasting legacy of love, loyalty, friendship and commitment to his faith, and he will be greatly missed.
Mark is survived by his wife, Audrey Forgue, his daughters Jessica (Andy) Mithun and Valerie (Joe) Becker, his grandchildren Jackson, Nora and Adam Becker, his sister Rene (Jim) Rosni, his brother Keith (Jasmin) Forgue, and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by Jean Marie Steinmetz (mother), Richard Leonard Forgue (father), Karen Owens (sister), and Deirdre Forgue (daughter).
Visitation and Rosary Wednesday, September 25th at St. Peter's from 6:30pm-8:00pm with a rosary beginning at 7pm.
Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, September 26, at 9:30am at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Greeley, CO.
Graveside service and interment following mass at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley, CO followed by a luncheon gathering back at St. Peter's.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on behalf of the family to Lighthouse Family Mortuary, Greeley, CO (970) 503-5223. Online condolences can be made at https://www.lighthousefamilylfm.com/

I worked with Mark for many years at GPD. We were car partners for several years during our time in the Community Outreach Program. We had many lively discussions about life, religion, and the job. Mark was a kind and caring person. He would use humor to bring me up when he knew I was grouchy. I enjoyed all the time I got to spend with Mark. He will be missed.

Mark and I took a "Biblical Study" of sorts with a Parish Priest at Our Lady of Peace Parish. The books were interesting, I was fine until we got into the Geographics of the travels in the desert for 40 years... This is where Mark shined, great person to study and laugh with. Often, I would see him at Panera for his coffee with his pals.. Great man, condolences to Audrey and fam at this difficult time. Peace- Sandi Elder

I worked with Mark for over 30 years, my wife Susie for over 20 years, my daughter, Adrienne, danced with Valarie but my most cherished memories are our many trips my son Jared and I made to the Boundary Waters with Mark. As both Jared and Adrienne said, Mark was one of the really good guys.

To the Forgue family, I was honored to work with Mark for 16 years at GPD. We backed each other up on calls, laughed with each other on coffee breaks (I´ll never forget Mark´s laugh...it often cracked me up just to hear his laugh). I was fortunate enough to be a friend of Mark´s, and I was blessed to talk with him shortly before his surgery. We said we loved each other, and I assured Mark that I and my congregation were praying for him and his recovery. Mark and I were exactly nine months apart, and he felt like my brother. He surely has many jewels in his heavenly crown, and it´s going to be such a great reunion when we´re all together again. I am confident that when Mark went to be with our Lord, He welcomed Mark by saying, "Welcome home, my good and faithful servant." Thank you, Audrey, Valerie, and Jessica, for sharing Mark with us for so many years. We are all better for knowing him. Much love, Joy Hemby

Oh Mark, I´ve always been so grateful for you, Audrey and the girls. How blessed we were to have been raised in our little house on Alstead with a family that truly loved each other. I know you´re with Deirdre, Karen, Mom and Dad, but I already miss you so much. Thank you for being a brother I've always been proud of. Thank you for marrying someone that I love and have considered a sister from day one, Thank you for sharing and letting us love your three beautiful daughters. Thank you for our long phone conversations and for ending every call with "I love you". Thank you for always coming to Michigan when we needed you and for the many times we just wanted you. Thank you for taking that trip with us to Scotland and Ireland. For me it was a trip of a lifetime, mainly because we shared it with you and Audrey (I was so looking forward to our next trip together). You´ve always been there for me (for us). My family adores you and your family. Every occasion we´ve had together has been filled with love and laughter. Please let our family know how much I love and miss them, though I´m sure they already know. I know we will all be together again someday, but I will miss you every single day until that time comes. Please rest easy knowing we will always be here for Audrey, Jessica (Andy) and Val (Joe) and your three beautiful grandchildren.. I love you Mark, I always will. ~Rene
