Mark Garlock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. - Rochester on Dec. 4, 2025.
Mark Douglas Garlock was born in Herkimer NY and grew up in the Mohawk Valley town of Newport. He loved his small-town upbringing, often spending time with his grandparents playing cards, berry-picking, baking, and gardening.

At the urging of a friend, he agreed to a blind date in 1984 where he met Carmel Priore, who'd become his wife in 1986. Together they dealt with the passing of their first child, Andrew Joseph, later sharing the joy of the arrival of their daughter, Leah Grace.

Mark graduated from Alfred State College where he met many lifelong friends. He then went on to Rochester Institute of Technology for his BS in Engineering and MS in Applied Statistics. His mechanical engineering career took him first to Kodak where he developed six patents, then later to Carestream Health at their locations in Rochester, Europe, and Australia. Mark's co-workers will remember his strong work ethic, paired with his easy-going nature and quick wit. Mark volunteered at Rochester Community Bikes and the "World Famous Next-to-New Sale" at Blessed Sacrament Church.

He loved spending time with family and friends, wine collecting and food-pairing, vacationing in the Adirondacks, kayaking, and barbequing. His family and friends meant the world to him. Mark was a lively conversationalist and lit up any gathering. He couldn't tell a joke but could get folks laughing with a turn of phrase or a facial expression. Being married to a Bills fan, Mark learned to tolerate being a football widower.

Mark dealt with his ALS diagnosis with his usual sense of determination and analytical adaptations to its declining phases. His final challenge (a cardiac event related to his ALS) was brief and blessedly not distressing to him.

Mark's infant son, Andrew Joseph, and parents, Al and Helen Garlock, predeceased him. In addition to Carmel, Leah and her husband Seolbin Kim, Mark is survived by his sisters Margaret Garlock, Ann (Joe) Moore, and Elizabeth (Dan) Garlock-Harris, as well as his brother-in-law, Dennis (Karen) Priore, all in his extended family, and his many friends.

Friends and Family may call FRIDAY December 12th from 4-7 at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. (3325 Winton Rd. S). Mark's Funeral Mass will be held 10 AM on SATURDAY December 13th, in Blessed Sacrament Church (259 Rutgers St.). Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the ALS Association (WEBSITE)
