Celebrating the life of Mark Wayne Gibson, 68, affectionately known as "Hoot," who passed away surrounded by love. Born on March 11, 1957, in Linden, Texas to GM "Hoot" and Mayon W. Gibson, Mark spent his later years in Longview, Texas, having formerly resided in Daingerfield. He passed away Tuesday evening, October 7, 2025 at his residence following a courageous battle with Cancer.
Mark cherished the simple joys of life, a testament to his love of the outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he was renowned for his mouth-watering fish fries, shrimp boils, and camp burgers. His culinary skills were unmatched when it came to making the world's best deer jerky. A significant highlight for him was participating in the 4th of July boat parade, a tradition he looked forward to every year. His dedication as a fan of the Texas Longhorns was unparalleled, and his unwavering enthusiasm made him a beloved figure among his friends and family. Mark's profound love for his family resonated in everything he did, and his role as an incredible friend remains a legacy cherished by all who knew him.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Teri Gibson, and their loving children: Kimberly Gibson "Ryan Petty", Catherine Brock "Maddox Shaw", Jeremy McGee and his wife Valerie, Jody Helsley and his wife Stacy. He was a proud grandfather to Cheyenne Richmond and her husband Brayson, Sierra Schutter and her husband Jarrod, Dakota Helsley and his wife Sierra, as well as four great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. He also leaves behind his sisters, Gina Campbell and her husband Jay, and Murralyn Gibson; and his special niece, Tia Garcia, her husband Sam, and their children Lorelei and Harlowe. His beloved dog Bella will miss him dearly.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mayon Gibson, and his son, Jacob McGee.
Mark's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with passion, love, and an enduring commitment to his community and loved ones. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, October 12, 2025 in the Chapel of Horn Family Funeral Home with Pastor Joey Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Daingerfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 12176 US 259 N, Ore City, Texas 75683, an organization that Mark held dear.
