Mark Gilland Obituary

Mr. Mark Ray Gilland, 52, of 2535 Iron Springs Road, Fairfield, PA, died at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 11, 2011, in his home. He had been critically ill for the past week. Born February 12, 1958 in Waynesboro, he was the son of Raymond C. Gilland of Fairfield and Ruth Elaine (Carbaugh) Gilland of Fairfield. Mark graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1976. He was employed at Taney Lumber and Supply in Taneytown, MD, Blue Ridge Pipe and Nipple Company in Greenstone, PA; and Blue Ridge Fastners in Blue Ridge Summit, PA. He retired in 2007. Mark was a member of the Greenstone Apostolic Church, Fairfield, where he sang in the choir for 37 years. He also sang in the father and son quartet of the apostolic church, and loved sports, especially Pittsburgh Steelers football and New York Yankees baseball. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Michelle Ryder of Fairfield; his niece, Ashley "Nikki" Abrahams of Fairfield; his nephew, Randy Abrahams of Fairfield; his aunt Dorothy Socks of Waynesboro; and his uncle Robert Carbaugh of Fairfield. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Greenstone Apostolic Church, 2550 Iron Springs Road, Fairfield, with Pastor Eugene Cline, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Greenstone Apostolic Church Building Fund, 2550 Iron Springs Road, Fairfield, PA, 17320 or The Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA, 17268.
