Mark S. Habowski

Mark S. "Harpo" Habowski, age 63, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, July 24, 2023. The son of the late James and Rosemary (Zak) Habowski, he was born on December 20, 1959 in Bay City. Mark graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1978. He has been a longtime member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Hyacinth Church. Mark was a welder by trade but had a passion and talent when it came to agriculture and had the vegetables to prove it every summer. He enjoyed gardening and doing yard work, especially with his grandsons, and was notorious for making his "Big" no bake cookies which he would specifically make for family and friends. Mark was a "Big" sports enthusiast from season to season, making sure he didn't miss a game on the big screen, especially any U of Michigan games. Harpo was a "Big Guy" with a "Big Heart" and approached everything in life with enthusiasm to match. His bark was bigger than his bite. He was always first to offer a helping hand and would never turn down a request to help. Mark was larger than life and enjoyed everything it had to offer, but family was the most important and they will miss him dearly.
On November 18, 1994 Mark was united in marriage to the former Julie Dawn Sobczak and she preceded him in death on January 2, 1996. He is survived by his son, Justin (Christine) Dyjak; three grandsons, Austin, Colt and Cam; a sister, Marysue (Dan) Butterfield; two brothers, Thomas (Rhonda) Habowski and Robert (Jamie) Habowski; his good buddies, Kelly White and Ron Warren; and several nieces and nephews. Mark was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Jo (Charles) Boyle; and a nephew, Tucker Butterfield.
The Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Hyacinth Church. Fr. Nicholas Coffaro will preside and the Rite of Committal will follow at St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the wishes of the family.
