Mark Robert Harwood, 64, of Proctorsville, Vermont, passed away on September 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous 10-year battle with stage 4 terminal cancer.

Born on November 14th, 1960 in Springfield, Vermont, Mark proudly served his country as a Marine in the United States Navy, shortly after his service he spent several years in California, a place that always held a special meaning to him, before returning home to Vermont, where he built a life rooted in hard work, respect, and love for those around him. He spent many years working at Mack Molding, where his intelligence, creativity, and dedication left a lasting impact. Mark fought a tough battle with cancer, while continuing to work through as much of it as possible.

Mark was passionate about family, music, fishing and pretty much anything outdoors. He found joy in hands on work-always building, fixing, or tinkering with something, mostly mechanical work. Known for his sharp wit, generosity, and big heart, he had a spark to him that made every room brighter. His sense of humor, kindness, and resilience touched everyone he met. To those who knew him, Mark was not only one of the smartest men they'd ever met, but also one of the most generous.

Mark is survived by his three children Sean Harwood in Indianapolis IN, Melanie Harwood Proctorsville VT, Malia Harwood Chester VT as well as his siblings Paula Harwood Cambridge MA, Eugene Dean Chester VT, Richard Harwood Peru NY and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his father Robert Ingalls Harwood, and mother Beverly Bixby Dean.

He will be remembered as an amazing father, devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a source of strength, laughter, and wisdom to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service will be held at the Proctorsville Fire Department at 11am on Friday, October 10th.
