Andrew Goodrich Searle died unexpectedly at his home on September 5, 2025. He was born in Hoboken NJ on November 16, 1947 to Hildagarde (Goodrich) and Richard Searle. The family moved to Perkinsville in 1950, where Andrew spent the rest of his childhood. He was precocious, learning to read at age three, and in fact was a voracious reader throughout his life. He was especially fond of mysteries and books about sailing and loved to discuss and share books with others. Andrew graduated from Springfield High School in 1964 at the tender age of 16, having skipped a grade in elementary school, so his parents decided to send him to Bridgton (Maine) Academy for a gap year before college. At the time he resented this decision, but later in life he became a dedicated supporter of the Academy, making trips there as well as regular donations. He did go on to college, graduating from UVM with a B.S. in Business Management.

One of Andrew's most defining traits was his generosity. He devoted much of his life to caring for others as needs arose, including his mother, father, grandfather and uncle Charlie, for whom he was appointed guardian by the court. He also donated to a wide variety of causes, including animal welfare. He loved animals in general and cats in particular, especially his beloved Zach. Family always came first for Andrew, but he also spent many years working at several different companies: Jones & Lamson, Earth's Best Baby Food, Fujifilm Dimatix, and Staples.

Skiing was another passion, and Andrew was a third-generation National Ski Patrol member. He served that organization for 40 years, as a ski patrolman at Okemo and Maple Valley, and by leading training workshops throughout the Northeast. His love of sailing began with Snipe races on Lake Dunmore in his teens, and he also enjoyed kayaking with Rae. He loved to watch car races and occasionally worked in the pit at the race track. Other favorite pastimes in his later years included playing cribbage at the senior center, meeting friends for breakfast at the diner, working on the class float for alumni parades, and serving on the board of FOSTL (Friends of Springfield Town Library) where he helped with annual book sales.

Andrew is survived by brother Scott Searle, sister Nina Chan and a large extended family, in addition to his longtime partner, Rae Taylor, and Rae's daughter Paige Bladyka, whom Andrew loved as his own.

Burial will take place at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Northfield, VT on September 22, 2025 at 1:00pm.

Donations may be made to the Springfield Humane Society.

Many of my fondest memories of growing up in Ludlow are from my time at Okemo. Andrew was an integral part of my being welcomed into the Ski Patrol family both as a mentor and a friend. He introduced me to cribbage which I still enjoy to this day. I am grateful for Andrew´s being a part of that special time in my life. My condolences to the family.
