Mark Hathaway Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGeehan Funeral Homes Keck-Coleman Chapel on Dec. 6, 2025.
Mark Hathaway, current resident of St. Johns, died on December 4, 2025, after a valiant year-long battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 69 years old.
Born on February 25, 1956, he was the oldest of three children born to Everette and Janice (Bigelow) Hathaway. Mark graduated from Newberry High School in 1974 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1974 to 1978 as a submariner. After his military service, Mark worked for many years as a highly skilled tool and die machinist, eventually retiring from Alro Steel in 2020.
Mark was happiest outdoors-fishing, camping, riding his motorcycle, and later riding up the trails in the side-by-side. He was active with his sons in 4-H and spent many enjoyable years as a member of the Sleepy Hollow Conservation Club and several area gun clubs. He loved his music and star gazing; he was a big dreamer.
On July 28, 2019, Mark married Linda Smith, and together they made their home in Harrison MI, and later re-settling in St. Johns to be with family and building a life full of love, companionship, laughter, and the occasional pranks. Together, they enjoyed trailing with friends in West Virginia, traveling in the Upper Peninsula, and spending time with family and many friends.
Known for his magnetic personality, Mark never met a stranger. He made friends easily, could talk to anyone, and had a gift for making people laugh with his stories, jokes, and occasional harmless pranks. Kids especially adored him for his unforgettable Donald Duck impression. He was a devoted animal lover and a loyal friend, bringing light and humor wherever he went.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hathaway; son Jacob Hathaway; mother Janice Thurston; step-son Adam (Lillian) Smith; grandchildren Lincoln and Quinn; siblings Todd (Ruth) Hathaway and Shelly (Jeff) Hathaway; half-sisters Megan (Chuck) Reck and Melissa (Tom) Wisehart; half-brother Michael Hathaway; mother-in-law Verna Thurston; brothers-in-law Roger (Karen) Thurston, Richard (Lori) Thurston, and Robert (Sandy) Thurston; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Everette Hathaway; son, Jesse Hathaway and step-son, Bobby Smith.
A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the VFW Post 4113, 2497 Old US 27, St. Johns at 11 AM, with a luncheon following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory supporting veterans or by planting a tree.
