I just heard of Mark's passing. I am so sorry to hear. Like so many others, he kept our Irish Setter in great shape for her long healthy life. We went to him preventatively to make sure nothing was "out of balance." Our dog Rosie and he had a nice reporte and she trusted him to do chiropractic adjustments on her...but hated the acupunture...but she let him. I could always tell that she felt more energized after a visit. I would say to her..."Do you want to go see Dr. Mark?" She would practically run to the door to get in the car. Such a unique and caring soul....he cared about his patients and their families. There will never be another Dr. Mark.

I've just found out about Mark's death. My profound condolences to the family. He will always be the wonderful soul my husband and I knew since 2007; he'd come to Maryland several times a year - and was helping our 4th dog for only 1.5 years.

I am so very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He took care of my Ma'ie when he practiced on Hopi land back in the mid 80's and we used to come up from Flagstaff for treatments. I enjoyed our conversations and all he taught me about holistic medicine. The world lost a wonderful person and vet.

I am so very sorry to see Dr. Haverkos has passed away. He was an amazing vet and took great care of my dog´s chiropractic needs when others couldn´t help him. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Mark. Two of my dogs were patients of his when he would come to Maryland for a few days several times a year. His extensive knowledge and flawless technique helped our dogs so much, but most of all, I think his kindness, patience, and compassion helped them (and us) even more.
Sending thoughts now to the Haverkos family during these hard days.

Mark, I was heartbroken to learn of your passing. The memory came flooding back of the first day I met you, walking into the barn I had just started managing, and there you were: tie-dyed t-shirt, beads, and that *hat. You introduced yourself as the vet, and I accidentally said "Yeah, right..." out loud. You laughed, "I get that often." I spent the next six hours holding horses for you, asking questions constantly as this was my first experience with acupuncture for horses. You not only answered all of my questions, you invited me to follow you to other barns to assist and learn.
You worked with so many of my dogs and horses, with clients dogs and horses, and it was a joy to work with you in healing animals, to learn from you, and to become a cherished friend. It was a great honor when you would tell people that you only trusted two people to hold animals for you, Nan and me.
You changed my life, Mark. I am eternally grateful for all you taught me, and for the years of friendship. You´ll always be this Pioneer Woman´s friend.

So sorry to hear of Dr Haverkos' passing. A true master of Holistic Veterinary Medicine. As a Holistic DVM I learned a lot from him and will be forever greatful. Went to his lectures and traveled once to his clinic and learned from it all.

Oh Dr. Mark, I am so saddened to see you have passed on. My Mom (Kay), Grandma (d. 2014) and sister loved coming and seeing you and Nan with all of our doggies. You always took exceptional care of us and our furbabies. We are eternally grateful for you. Praying for your family during this time. God Bless you and your family.

I met Mark at the American Holistic Veterinary Medicine Association conference many years ago and was always inspired by his contributions to our profession. He served faithfully on the AHVMA Council of Elders, sharing freely what he had learned. In May 2014 he hosted a weekend seminar at his farm where we had lectures in the barn, and of course there was also a barn dance!
May memories of good times and shared passions comfort all who will not accompany him on his next adventure.

I got dragged kicking and screaming into Holistic Medicine. The first exposure was at the conference in Vermont and Mark came on the stage with his feather in his hat and his buckskins, and said a prayer as Cheryl rang the singing bowl, and Jim played a flute. I thought "what the heck am I doing here?" But as I stayed around for the 3 days, Mark came up and said hello. Found out I played guitar, and that I had no clue as to what many docs were even talking about, and said I could always ask him anything.
As the years went by, we had many great moments playing music and smoking some of his favorite stuff. I would be wandering the exhibits and from across the hall I'd hear "Newkirk, did you bring your guitar?"
He will be missed. Play on my friend.

Mark has been in my life for so many years because I saw him a lot. He lived down the street from us. He was the first doctor in the family and I was so impressed. I always said that his family had the brains and we had the Brawn. I know he will be missed by family and friends as well as the animals and the owners that he so lovingly took care of. I know all those horses and cows and other farm animals are saying where´s Marc I don´t feel good. You have been a blessing to the family and I have enjoyed the times we spent at the farm when we were young and as we got older reunions also at the farm. God bless you.

Julie, I never forget what you said when my sweet little guy OB was dying and he kept trying to "go somewhere ". You said your brother Mark would say "his ancestors were calling to him...". I can´t tell you how much better that remark made me feel.
I so sorry you´ve lost your brother. He was quite a man!

I was devastated to learn of Mark´s passing. He was a favorite cousin of mine and we shared so many wonderful times together. His love of the family farm, and his desire to preserve it, is so inspiring. One of the last times I visited with him and Connie, he shared with me the farm´s history tracing back many years. He was a lover of not only the earth but of animals, as well, including Krishna, his beloved steer. Mark will always hold a special
place in my heart and I will never forget him.

To Mark's dear family,
I have known Mark for many years. I retired as the pastor at Covenant Partners Ministries in Muncie, IN, a few years ago. Dr. Haverkos used to come every other month to the the church on Friday evenings and work on animals. I believe he came there close to 15 years, maybe longer. He was always so compassionate and loving to all of God's creatures who passed through the doors...four legged and two legged. Everyone who came for an appointment knew that he would not be "on time", but no one got upset about it. They knew that he would arrive in his own time and that would be just the right time. On one occasion someone brought their horse, and they parked in the doctor's lot next to the church. Mark went out and took care of them just like it was an everyday thing to have a horse in the parking lot next door. He saw a few cats, but mostly dogs over the years he worked on animals at Covenant Partners. We were all blessed to have him there for all those years. I feel blessed to have gotten to know him. He was a very unique and special man. He touched many, many lives in a positive way. He will be missed.
Keeping you lifted in prayer,
Jerry and Linda McBride

Loved playing pirates as kids in the barns on the farm.. Mark and I enjoyed family history stories and looking at the old pictures of family members.
My favorite Mark memories are watching the sunset on the porch on the farm. Loved his barn parties.
One of the most unique individuals I have ever know. So sorry he is gone.
