Mark J. Kurmlavage, age 69, of West Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2025, in the loving care of his devoted wife, Jennifer (Wheat) Kurmlavage.
Born in Philadelphia on June 3, 1955, Mark was the beloved son of the late Michael P. Kurmlavage and Maryann (Mulholland) Kurmlavage. He was the cherished brother of Michael M. Kurmlavage (Maria) and John L. Kurmlavage, and brother-in-law of Daniel Wheat. He is also survived by his nieces Vera and Barbara Rose; nephews Michael and Christopher; and his beloved goddaughters, Barbara Rose Dello Monache, Lisa Bristow Cecil, and Alexandra (Zehner) Rodriguez.
Mark's early education was at St. James and St. Francis de Sales elementary schools, and he was a proud member of the West Catholic High School for Boys Class of 1973. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Marketing and Marketing Management from Penn State University in 1980.
For over four decades, Mark led as the Owner and President of M.K. Food Service Equipment, Inc. He built not just a successful business, but a true community of colleagues, customers, and employees-many of whom he considered close friends. Known for his sharp business mind, warm demeanor, and tireless dedication, Mark was known to host meetings and conferences that stretched long into the evening, building bonds as much as business.
Mark was passionate about the water and spent countless joyful hours boating on the Chesapeake Bay with his wife and friends. A model train enthusiast and proud Harley-Davidson rider, he lived by the motto: "Live to Ride, Ride to Live."
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Church, 4625 Springfield Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19143. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM, with interment at Head of the River Cemetery, 600 NJ-49, Woodbine, NJ 08270.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mark's memory may be made to: The American Cancer Society or Saint Francis De Sales School.

Mark loved to dance. Mark loved to play pick up basketball, and was a very good player. Mark was the pitcher on our intramural soft ball team.

Mark was one of my roommates at Penn State from 1976 thru 1980. Unfortunately we lost contact afterward, but I must say he was one of the kindest, friendliest persons I ever knew in my entire life. He didn´t have a mean bone in his body. I will always remember him. My strongest condolences to his entire family.
