Mark Langemo

Mark Langemo, age 73, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Saturday, August 28th, at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Silver Bay, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4th, at Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery, rural McIntosh, with the Rev. Karl Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, September 3rd, inside Trinity Free Lutheran Church. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the cemetery. Please bring your own chair to the cemetery service as there will be limited seating in chairs. Mark cared deeply for others and valued the opportunity to gather with friends and family. Our wish is for everyone who wants to attend to feel comfortable and safe. We will respect our friends and family with health & safety concerns and are requiring masks to be worn inside for the Friday visitation and prayer service. We encourage masks to be worn for the funeral and in close surroundings.
Mark Richard Langemo was born September 18, 1947 at the Fosston hospital, to parents Gerhard and Myrtle (Voxland) Langemo. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural McIntosh. He grew up on his parents' farm and attended elementary and high school in McIntosh, graduating in 1965. He next attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
As a youngster, Mark spent a lot of time with beef cattle and horses. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed driving farm machinery. Mark also especially enjoyed family trips to Kenyon, Minnesota to visit extended family and looked forward to times his relatives came "up north" to visit. Many Sunday afternoons were spent riding horse in the area with his cousins and friends.
Mark served in the United States Navy during the era of the Vietnam War/Conflict. He was in the Naval Reserves and was called to active duty in Danang, Vietnam working on the deepwater piers. After being honorably discharged Mark returned to Concordia College and soon decided to return to McIntosh to farm with his dad.
Mark was united in marriage with Jan(et) Roppe in Wheaton, Minnesota on September 26, 1971. After their marriage, they resided on the Langemo farm north of McIntosh raising cattle and crops. Mark and Jan were blessed with five children.
After farming full-time, Mark became a rural mail carrier and bus driver, retiring in 2012. After retirement, Mark and Jan spent many winters visiting children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. Mark especially enjoyed skiing and loved spending time in Montana. In later years, Mark and Jan spent winters in Salt Lake City, Utah and Arizona. When Mark was no longer able to travel, he missed the open air skies, country life and the laughter of his grandchildren.
Mark was a quiet man with a deep but quiet faith. His desire was for people to know Jesus as Savior, as well as to be empathetic and kind to each other.
Mark is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Jan of McIntosh, MN; children, Marshall (Amy) of Blaine, MN, Jim (Elisabeth) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kjersten (Peter) Larson of Duluth, MN, Amanda (Mark Kim) Langemo of Knoxville, TN and Brady (Karol) of McIntosh, MN; sister Mary (Loren) Baumbach of Northfield, MN and brother Jack (Kathleen) Randall of Cameron, MO. Mark's eleven grandchildren were the apple of his eye and gave him great joy. He will be dearly missed by Willa, Sawyer, Celia, Tumiso, Collin, Finley, Keaton, Ada, Ella, Grafton and Magnolia. He is also survived by several cousins as well as seven nieces and nephews and their children.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents Gerhard and Myrtle Langemo, sister Louise Nelson, and brother Marlane Langemo.
Mark wanted to be remembered as "a nice man." Mark will always be the guy with the crooked smile, a twinkle in his eye, and a kind word for whomever he met.
His family would like to thank the staff of Poplar Meadows, McIntosh Senior Living and the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay, who comforted Mark in his last days on this earth.
