Mark Long Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walker Sanderson Funeral Home & Crematory - Orem on Sep. 27, 2022.
Mark David Long, 56, of Orem, Utah, passed from this life unexpectedly Tuesday, September 20th, 2022.
A Father, Son, and Brother, he was a sportsman and outdoorsman, athlete, artisan, musician, proud Patriot and a staunch advocate of the 1st and 2nd amendments. Rights he fully and enthusiastically exercised.
Mark's childhood years were largely spent growing up in Rose Park, a small community in North Salt Lake. At age 10 he moved with his family to Orem where he attended school at Bonneville Elementary, Orem Jr. High, and Mountain View High School from which he graduated in 1984. He would eventually settle in Orem where he purchased a home not far from his childhood home.
He worked hard to support and provide for his family, giving 30 years of loyal service to his employer Meadow Gold Dairy in Orem. When the Orem facility closed Mark made the daily trek to the Salt Lake plant.
Mark loved the outdoors, an avid hunter, fisherman, and antler collector. He would spend days in the mountains and forests of Utah hunting game with his brothers and friends, fishing with his girls, or searching hillsides for antler sheds from deer and elk with his brother Steve. He could hike and hike and hike and hike some more, always anxious to see what might await over the next ridge.
Mark had artistic talent. He played the drums and while not formally trained could sit at a piano or keyboard and play a song by ear. He eventually channeled his talent into a business, taking the deer antlers collected in late winter or early spring and crafting quality ink pens and other items from them. A small business, "Antlers Ink," was born from his hobby of gathering antlers. He and his brother Steve created beautiful lamps, dream catchers, glasses and goblets, and other items from the antlers found and the hides of the animals harvested during their hunts, each item unique and beautiful.
One of Mark's favorite things to do was take his girls, Mallory and Alyssa, fishing on the lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and streams of Utah. The photographs and videos of those moments truly capture the good father and man he was and will always be.
Mark was an incredibly kind soul who would do anything for anyone in need. He had a brilliant sense of humor and an infectious laugh that could bring a smile to any face, no matter how Long (pun intended).
Mark was preceded in this life by his son Wade and his father R. Kay Long. He is survived by his daughters, Mallory, Alyssa, and Brooke and by his mother Maren Kay Long and five siblings, Doug, Steve, Rob, Terri Shields, and Sherri Anderson.
Mark is so loved by so many and we miss him terribly, but carry with us a hope that there is more to come and a joyful reunion awaits on the horizon, just over that next ridge
