Brooklet-  Mark Anthony McDowell, Sr. age 52, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at his home after an extended illness.  Mr. McDowell was born September 15, 1971 in Savannah, GA.  Mark was a mechanic and technician for Dan Vaden Automotive for 17 years and Colonial Oil Company for over 20 years.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed NASCAR.   Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. Mark loved working on cars and hunting.  He never met a stranger, was very compassionate and had a wonderful sense of humor.  Mr. McDowell was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.  

 

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, April Burnsed McDowell of Brooklet; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark A. McDowell, Jr and Taylor McDowell of Ellabell; one daughter, Shelby Volkert of Brooklet; his parents, Delores and Harry Powell of Ellabell and John McDowell, Sr. of Savannah; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Sebrina McDowell of Brooklet; one sister, Alison Alexander of Louisiana; grandchildren, Cayson, Ella, Waylon, and Aiden; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charles and Lora Kangeter of Ellabell; several nieces and nephews, including Rachel Postell, Crystal Dunkle and Hunter McDowell and his beloved service dog, Sassy.  

 

Visitation will be held 6-8 P.M. Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the funeral home.  

 

Funeral service will be 2 P.M. Friday, March 29, 2024 in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Dunkle officiating. 

 

Interment will follow in Lower Black Creek Cemetery.
