Mark L. Merlin
(November 14, 1970 - May 31, 2025)
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Merlin of Lisle, Illinois. Mark passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025.
Son of the late Lillian (Novack) Merlin, Mark was born on November 14, 1970 in Chicago, Illinois. From the midst of South Honore Street emerged a person of great character, unique humor and immense compassion with a genuine devotion to family and a soft spot in his heart for everyone; all wrapped in a joy of living that was contagious to all he encountered.
Mark poured his heart and soul into everything he did. He was a true "Jack of all trades," known for his propensity to fix any problem and his willingness to help anyone. His ability to troubleshoot and repair almost anything was legendary. His aptitude for complex problems and drive to find solutions led him into a long and successful career with AT&T and CBRE as a data center technical specialist. Mark was resilient, hardworking, and loyal. His compassion was unmatched. He was the master of dad jokes. His wit and humor were infectious. He saw light in every situation, even when others couldn't. But his greatest achievement, without a doubt, was that he set the standard for what an incredible and true husband and father should be.
His wife, Shannon (Walsh) Merlin of nineteen years, and children, James Patrick and Clare Frances, are left with a void that can never be filled. Mark always put his family first. And he did it flawlessly. There was laughter every day. His hugs were medicinal. His patience was exceptional. And he never forgot to tell his wife and kids that he loved them. He provided an unwavering warmth and comforting presence that will never be forgotten.
Mark reached the pinnacle of success here on Earth - he walked through adversity with his head held high, exemplified kindness and forgiveness without hesitation, gave selflessly without expecting anything in return, filled every room he entered with laughter, and genuinely appreciated every day he was able to share with his family.
In addition to his wife and children, Mark leaves behind his siblings; brother Michael Merlin of Orland Park, Illinois; Andrea Merlin of Tinley Park, Illinois; Lynn Kwiatkowski of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; brother Matthew Merlin and wife Harriet of Palm City, Florida; and brother David Merlin and wife Barbara of Stuart, Florida. Mark was also the proud and popular uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Shannon, James, and Clare wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated teams of doctors, nurses, and staff at both Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois and Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, Illinois for their steadfast care, genuine compassion, and exceptional support.
A fund has been established for the benefit of Mark and Shannon's children. Payment can be made payable to Pershing LLC, with the account noted on the check "fbo Merlin" and mailed to: Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, 1901 Butterfield Road, Ste 300, Downers Grove, IL 60515.
