Mark Merwarth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nassau Funeral Home - Callahan on May 23, 2025.
Merwarth – Mark Francis Merwarth, Sr., age 90, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025. He was born on November 13, 1934, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to the late Hugh Merwarth and Elizabeth Miller Merwarth. A devout Catholic throughout his life, Mark carried his beliefs with quiet strength and unwavering devotion. Mark and the love of his life Gloria shared 64 beautiful years of marriage. They were avid walkers and participated in 10k walks in all 50 states and even participated in a few overseas. Mark and Gloria were also members of the American Volkssport Association. They built their life together in Orlando, Florida, where they raised their children with love and dedication. Later in life, they relocated to Fernandina Beach, Florida, a place that became a cherished home for many years. A proud Florida State Seminoles fan, Mark's passion for his team was matched with his love for spending time on the golf course. His sense of humor was legendary among those who knew him. Mark was quick-witted and always ready with a smile or a clever remark. Mark and Gloria had a special fondness for what they affectionately called "wine time," often reminding others that it was always five o'clock somewhere. Above all else, Mark loved his family deeply. He adored his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. Mark's warmth and laughter filled every room he entered, leaving lasting memories for all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire joy and love in their lives. Mark is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria Joan Merwarth; brother, Edward Merwarth; sisters, Lucille Kovacs, Betty Ann DeSieno, and Mary Rader.
Mark leaves behind his children, Laurie (Debi) Merwarth, Mark Merwarth, Jr., Lisa (Linda) Swanson; grandchildren, Owen, Landon, Logan, Lindsay, Liam, Lukas; great-grandchildren, Brazen, Laekin.
A Celebration of Mark's Life will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church with Father Bui officiating. Mark Jr., Laurie, Lisa and family
Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your father, He was a special uncle.
I have some good memories of your Dad and Mom that I would like to share.
In 1957 at age 3, Nanu took me on my first flight, Eastern Airline, from Newark to Orlando. We visited your Dad who was stationed at McCoy Air Force Base.
In 1961, age 7, I joined PopPop, Nanu and either Aunt Betty Ann or Aunt Mary for the long car ride from Bethlehem to Daytona Beach. Somewhere along the way we got a flat tire. This was before cars had air conditioning and before I-95. This trip was for your Mom and Dad´s wedding. I met your mother for the first time and was immediately taken in by her southern accent.
During one of your Dad´s trips to Bethlehem, he took me to a driving range at the old ABE airport where I hit golf balls for the first time. I know that he loved golf and meeting Arnold Palmer when working at the Disney course. I remember Mark Jr and I played golf with your Dad in Orlando.
I was also a victim of his friendly pranks. Nanu had just made me a few peanut butter crackers. There were approximately 6 or 7 crackers of which I only ate 2. The others just magically disappeared.

Let the many fond memories and good times you enjoyed with your Dad and Mom carry you through this difficult time.

I believe there is one heck of a celebration in heaven as he reunites with your Mom, many family members and friends.

May they rest in peace!
