Mark Hobson Mitchell, 64, passed away unexpectedly on October 20, 2024, in Checotah, Oklahoma. He was born on December 19, 1959, in Norfolk, Virginia, to James Milton Mitchell and Katherine King Mitchell. Mark was one of nine children and shared a special bond with his twin brother, Mike Mitchell.
A proud graduate of the class of 1978 at Checotah High School, Mark was a standout in football and an active and award-winning member of the FFA. He dedicated much of his career to roofing and pipeline work, fields where he developed several friendships. He also served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Mark married Jama Roller Mitchell in Muskogee in 1988. The pair shared many happy memories. They called Wichita, Kansas, their home for many years and enjoyed the community. While the marriage ended in divorce, they remained good friends.
Mark enjoyed the quiet satisfaction of gardening, caring for his horses, and practicing his golf swing. He had a deep affection for his many dogs over the years, including his latest, King, who was a cherished companion.
Mark never met a stranger and will be remembered for his work ethic, love of the outdoors, and the warmth and humor he shared with everyone. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mark is survived by his eight brothers and sisters including James Mitchell Jr., Mike and Pam Mitchell, Michelle (Missy) and Lee Harder, Patrick Mitchell, Chris and Audrey Mitchell, Ed and Shannon Mitchell, Maria and Jared Smith, and John and Ginger Mitchell. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 211 W. Okmulgee, Checotah, Oklahoma 74426.
