Mark Wayne Payton

Mark Wayne Payton, 68, Bagdad, died Sunday, January 25, 2026 at his home following a long illness. A native of Shelby County, he was the son of the late Ida Lee Harley Payton and Charles Payton, Sr. His career started as a bricklayer, a profession he continued for 25 years. He then worked an additional 20 years for Shuck Fence Company on the yard, loading trucks for fencing projects. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and lottery scratch-off tickets.

In addition to his parents, one brother, Charles Payton, Jr. and two sisters, Linda Payton and Rosetta Payton, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his life-long devoted companion, Anna Huffman of Shelbyville; his daughter, Tonya Payton (Deron Brewer) of Bagdad; his brother, Matthew Payton (Michelle) of Shelbyville; two grandchildren, Alan Gordon and Alivia McKinley; two great-grandchildren, Gabriella Gordon and Alex Gordon and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2026 at Webb Funeral Home with a brief service at 6:45 p.m. Cremation will follow the gathering of family and friends in accordance with his wishes. The cremated remains will be privately interred later.
