Stealing words from his obituary, Mark definitely would qualify as "the nicest man in the world"! I was fortunate to work with him for many years. He was a very hard worker but still knew how to make our jobs fun. One of the many memories that comes to mind is that Mark said we should never fly with him on a business trip. He said he was jinxed...his flights were either cancelled, delayed or had to turn back in mid-air because of not enough fuel! I can attest to this first-hand. Mark and I ended up on the same flight coming back from a work-related trip to New Orleans. We were delayed leaving New Orleans and landed in Chicago after the last flight for the day left. Not being an experienced flyer, like Mark, I would have probably spent the night in the terminal. Mark stepped up and got us each a room at a very plush hotel nearby, compliments of the airline. I mean...it even had big white fluffy robes in the closet for us to wear! We only slept a couple of hours that night before our early morning flight, but thanks to Mark, I had a very good night´s sleep!
As for the attached photo, anyone who really knows me, knows that I take tons of photos to document special occasions. Well, back when I worked with Mark, I didn´t have a cellphone camera or I would have tons of photos, but I did find a snapshot of one momentous occasion....Mark´s 50th birthday celebration at work. Yes, he was such a sport to hold up his sign and let me take a photo! (Sorry, I had to really crop the photo to get it to upload properly!)
Condolences to all the family during this very difficult time. Rest in Peace, Mark. I´m sure the gates of heaven opened immediately when they saw it was you knocking on the door.
