It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Fire Chief Mark S. Subasic at the age of 67. Mark left this world on November 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, sacrifice, service, and love. He was the son of the late Joseph and Dorothy L. (Coss) Subasic. He was born on June 26, 1958, at Wheeling Hospital.

Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and an esteemed member of the Bridgeport community. He served on the Bridgeport Fire Department for 50 years, rising to the position of Chief, where he led with unwavering commitment and sacrifice for 34 years. He was also a founding member of the Bridgeport Fire Department Ambulance and Paramedic Service and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 by the Belmont County Fire and Squad Officers Association. His leadership and dedication ensured the department provided critical firefighting and emergency medical services, impacting the lives of countless residents. Throughout his career, Mark's sacrifice, and selfless commitment to protecting others earned him the respect and admiration of those who worked with him.

In addition to his service with the fire department, Mark also served as an off-ice official for the Wheeling Nailers for 20 years and retired from the Belmont County Water Department.

Beyond his professional and volunteer service, Mark cherished spending time with his family. He loved relaxing at their camp at Seneca Lake in Senecaville, Ohio, and creating lasting memories on his boat with his children and grandchildren. Mark was also a devoted dog lover-especially to his German Shepherd, Anya-whose companionship brought him joy and comfort. He was a pillar of strength for his loved ones and a source of inspiration to all who knew him.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne Shepherd; sons, Joey (Ashley) Subasic and Bobby (Connie) Chedester; daughters, Krystin (Brady Kovalski) Subasic and Erin (Brian) Porterfield; and grandchildren, Brantley, Brilyn, Ethan Porterfield, Beckett Chedester, and Connor Subasic; as well as his brother, Paul Subasic, and sister, Barb (Bruce) Ruthers.

His legacy is one of compassion, respect, and unwavering dedication to service. The outpouring of support and condolences from the community reflects the deep impact he made as a leader, colleague, friend, and neighbor.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28th, from1:00pm–3:00pm and 5:00pm–7:00pm at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside, Ohio 43912 with a Fire Department Service beginning at 7:00pm, and again on Saturday from 9:00am–11:00am with funeral service at11:00am at Wilson Funeral Home in Brookside, Ohio, 43912.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bridgeport Fire Department, P.O. Box 44, Bridgeport, Ohio 43912, in Mark's memory.
