WESTBOROUGH
Mark Teplitsky, 86, passed away at Leominster Hospital on Sunday, December 29, 2024, after a period of declining health. Mark was born and raised in Russia, the son of David Teplitsky and Vera Berestetsky. He studied in Moscow where he earned an M.S. from Moscow Institute of Steel & Alloys and subsequently, was awarded his PH.D. from the Institute of Metals Technology.
In1988 Mark immigrated to America and in 1993, proudly became a US citizen. In 1988, he began employment as a director at Electron Microscopy Service Laboratories. In 1992, Mark began employment within American Superconductor Corporation, serving as a Senior Staff Member until his retirement in 2011. Mark had a strong work ethic and took pride in a job well done. During his tenure, Mark was awarded the Diploma of Honor and Medal for Services in Electron Microscopy and was co-inventor of eight USSR patents and four USA patents. Mark found satisfaction in sharing his knowledge with other scientific minds. Over his career, his work was featured in four book chapters, 63 journal articles and 32 conference proceedings. He was a longtime professional society member of MSA, MRS and NESM.
In 1995, Mark married Natalia Maklakov. Together they enjoyed 29 years of marriage and making memories, whether it be travelling across the USA to visit one of many national parks or embarking on an international adventure. Throughout his life, Mark enjoyed being outside, surrounded by nature. He liked to swim, hike and cross-country ski. He enjoyed amateur photography, sharing a joke, relaxing to jazz music, reading and taking in a "good" movie. His most recent obsession was watching sport games and competitions, especially tennis.
In addition to his wife Natalia, Mark is survived by his son Sergei Sharenko and wife Anna Tipaeva of Rhode Island; a stepson Alexei Maklakov and wife Simmone Immler Maklakov of Norwich, UK and two grandchildren Mia and Benjamin Maklakov.
At his request, Mark's services will be private.
