Mark Watson Obituary

Mark Joseph Watson, 60, of Spokane Valley, Washington passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025. Because he was the youngest of seven, his siblings affectionately called him Markie.

Markie's younger years were filled with family, friends, and a foundation in his Christian faith. These influences continued throughout his life and became his strength.

Markie did not have the easiest adulthood; a tragic accident placed him in a wheelchair at the age of 20. Through those years he persevered through many challenges. Less than a year after his accident, he finished Bloomsday, later moving on to wheelchair sports, and boating. He loved to dance, and his amazing moves could be seen out on the dance floor. He ignored obstacles and lived life to the fullest. Sometimes we failed to realize what a fighter Markie was because it was such a norm for him to overcome. He conquered his challenges as they came, including several surgeries and his battle with cancer. Every day he showed us his strength, even during his weakest moments he was still stronger than most of us would have been. He is a true example of strength and courage.

We are so grateful that we were able to get together and celebrate his 60th birthday this last May. It was a blessing and a memorable moment for all of us.

We will all miss his smile, laughter and his humorous catchphrase telling us to "stop coddling me!" when we'd try to help him. Most likely, we were just in his way. We are so comforted in knowing he is reunited with Mom and Dad and that he's now running with Jesus and the Angels.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Laura Jean and Daniel Monroe Watson. He is survived by his 6 siblings: Michael Watson (Theresa), Patrick Watson, David Watson (Debbie), John Watson (Leeann), Timothy Watson, Laurie Watson (Patrick Dever).

A celebration of life will be held on November 9th at 12:00 pm at Darcy's Restaurant, 10512 E Sprague Ave in the Spokane Valley.

With his family at his side, he will be interred at St. Joseph's Cemetery with his parents the following day.
