Mark Witkus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home on Jan. 3, 2026.
Mark M. Witkus Sr, 70, of Woburn, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

Born in Cambridge, Mark was the beloved son of the late Adolph P. Witkus and the late Helen (Peters) Nicastro. He was educated in the Somerville school system and proudly graduated from Somerville Trade School with a certification in electronics. Though trained in electronics, Mark spent many years working as a skilled autobody technician at several local shops before his retirement, a testament to his hands-on talent and strong work ethic.

Mark met the love of his life, Gail Curtis, on a blind-date prom night, that evening sparked a romance that would last more than fifty years. Together, Mark and Gail embraced adventure, often traveling wherever the road, and the wind, led them. Their love of the water even led them to live aboard a boat for a brief time. They were perfectly balanced partners: Mark the strong, quiet presence with a great sense of humor and sharp wit, and Gail the outgoing, joyful spirit beside him.

They were blessed with two sons, Michael and "Lil" Mark, who completed their family and were Mark's greatest pride.

When he wasn't teaching his boys about cars or electronics, Mark could be found immersed in music. A passionate bass guitarist since the age of 15, he played in numerous bands, including Double Barrel, which opened for The Dream in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He also enjoyed singing backup, and occasionally lead, vocals. A natural tinkerer, Mark loved building models of all kinds, repairing electronics, and working on his extensive collection of guitar amplifiers.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gail Witkus of Woburn, his sons, 'Lil' Mark and his wife Susan of Somerville, Michael Witkus and his wife Olivia of Woburn, two adoring grandchildren, Nathan and Raina Witkus, his siblings, Joan Tavares of Watertown, Stanley and his wife Diane Witkus of Middleborough and his twin brother the late Steve Witkus and his wife Nora of Peabody, Adam Witkus and his wife Janet of Chelmsford, Maryann Raso and her husband Steven of Billerica, Linda Lewis of Watertown, Deb Witkus of Brattleboro, Vt., Lori McGuire and her husband Patrick of Lynn, Gloria Witkus of Crystal River, FL., and Phyllis Gaudet of Lynn, his sister in law Maureen Biggie and her husband Thomas of Everett as well as many nieces, nephews and many friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10am on Monday, January 5, 2026 at St. Charles Borremeo Parish, 280 Main St., Woburn. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital at Stjude.org.
