Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home on Jan. 19, 2026.
Viola LeBlanc, a woman of deep Catholic faith and a quiet yet steady force within her community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026. She was 92 years old.
Viola was born in
Rumford, Maine, the oldest of six children born to William and Mary Goodwin. She grew up in the small town of Rumford, with a population of about 5,000-a wonderful place to be raised and a community where everyone knew your name. She was a graduate of Stephens High School. While Viola cherished the close-knit feeling of her hometown, she longed for broader opportunities and eventually moved to Massachusetts.
It was there that she attended a dance where one of the band members, David LeBlanc, caught her eye. It truly was a case of opposites attracting. Dave was a vibrant musician, an athlete, and a true extrovert, while Viola was more reserved and never liked being the center of attention. Despite-or perhaps because of-their differences, their partnership thrived. They were married in 1962 and settled in Burlington in 1965.
Viola worked for many years as a secretary at the MITRE Corporation. When she became a mother, she stepped away from her career to devote herself fully to raising her daughter. Later in life, she returned to the workforce as a secretary at TAD Staffing Services. She also worked as a cashier at Marshall's, a job she genuinely enjoyed-especially the employee discounts and the chance to keep up with the latest fashion styles. She ended her working years at the Litchfield Company.
Though she never sought attention, Viola was deeply and quietly involved in her community. She was never the life of the party, but she was always present-engaged, dependable, and supportive. Her many affiliations included the Catholic Daughters Court in Reading, the Burlington Senior Citizen Organization, the Burlington Garden Club, the Burlington Historical Society, volunteering at the Burlington Public Library, the Burlington Junior Women's Club, the Red Hats Club, volunteering in the office at St. Margaret's Church, and the Women's Club at St. Matthew's Parish. She also devoted over 1,000 hours volunteering at Lahey Clinic Hospital and Medical Center. Viola was a doer and a worker, someone who made things happen while quietly standing in the background.
Viola treasured her daily routines and lived a life rooted in faith. She possessed a strong Catholic devotion, reading from her daily prayer book and praying the Rosary every day. She loved to read and crochet and carried herself always with impeccable style and grace. Viola and her husband Dave also loved to travel together, visiting destinations such as Hawaii, Aruba, Jamaica, Ireland, Branson, Missouri, and Kennebunk, Maine.
Viola was never a leader by title, but she was a steadfast supporter of countless causes and organizations. She made her mark not loudly, but quietly and with purpose-leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, and gentle dedication.
Viola was the beloved wife of the late David P. LeBlanc. She was the loving mother and mother-in-law of Katherine Leary & her husband Jonathan of Burlington. She was the sister of Patricia Bartholomew of Bradford, MA, Barbara Gauvin of Alfred ME, the late Eileen Bielskis, Imelda Popham, and Urban Goodwin. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Church in St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn Street, Burlington on Thursday, January 22 at Noon. Services will conclude with a burial at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Viola's name may be made to People Helping People, Burlington.
