Lee Funeral Home - OwingsIt is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mark Douglas Xander, a cherished soul who departed from us on December 24, 2025, at the age of 54. Born in Washington, DC, Mark found his home in Accokeek, Maryland, where he lived a life rich with passion for both nature and family.
Mark is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carol Xander and Henry “Hank” Xander, Jr. He is survived by his devoted brother, Andy and sister-in-law Nicole, along with his treasured niece, Alyssa, and nephew, Andrew. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous aunts, and cousins who will all carry his memory in their hearts.
Mark dedicated his career as an Environmental Health Specialist Supervisor at the Charles County Department of Health, where he took immense pride in his work, always striving to make the world a safer and healthier place for all. His commitment to the environment was paralleled only by his love of the great outdoors. An avid enthusiast of fishing, hunting, skiing, running, and biking, Mark found true joy in nature’s embrace. Many of his fondest memories were made on the waters of Canada, where he enjoyed fishing trips surrounded by family and in recent years, Mark shared many special moments on his brother’s boat.
A lover of rock music, Mark found solace in the sounds of Iron Maiden and Metallica, often picking up his guitar to create music that resonated with his spirit. His zest for life extended to sports; he played soccer for many years and enjoyed swimming, always cheering passionately for the Washington Commanders and Washington Capitals.
In honoring Mark’s life, celebrations of love and remembrance will take place at his funeral service. Friends and family are invited to share in the remembrance of this vibrant spirit. A visitation along with a service to follow will be held before his burial on January 17, 2026, at 600 Farmington Road W, Accokeek, MD.
As we gather to commemorate Mark’s numerous contributions to our lives and the beauty he brought to our world, we reflect on a life lived with passion, laughter, and unwavering support for those he loved. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
