Marla McClain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services - Monaca on Oct. 11, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marla Chembars McClain, age 53, on September 29, 2024, just a day after her birthday. Originally from Monaca, Marla was a devoted mother, loving wife, and compassionate friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone around her.
Marla graduated from Center Senior High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Edinboro University, followed by a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Her career was marked by her dedication to education, having spent many years working in the Pittsburgh Public Schools before transitioning to her role at the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. Marla's commitment to making a difference in the lives of others was evident in every endeavor she undertook.
A resident of Monroeville, PA, Marla had an unwavering love for animals. She had a special gift for taking in those in need, often filling her home with pets that she cherished dearly. Her passion for caring for all creatures extended to her particular obsession with turtles, which brought her immense joy.
Marla is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas McClain Jr., and her son, Christian McClain, who was the light of her life. She is also mourned by her parents, Frank and Evelyn Chembars; her sisters, Julia Metz and her husband Bill, and Rebecca Chembars and her husband John Hayden; as well as her niece, Laura Brightbill and her husband Zac, and her nephew, Justin Gooding.
A celebration of Marla's life will be held at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services in Monaca. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 17 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and again from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where all are invited to share their memories and honor her legacy. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18 at 11:00 am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the local humane society in Marla's memory.
Marla will be deeply missed, but her love and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
