North Newport, NH - Goin' up to her "spirit in the sky" Marleen (Marly) Jane Smith Dean-Tellor lost her battle with cancer Wednesday June 29th. For the last 5 years the battle was fought and Marly was supported, helped and loved by many.
Marly wishes to thank those cherished family members and friends: Her husband Herbert R. Tellor, Jr.; her oldest son John J. Dean and wife Jenn, and their two sons, Rayden Angus and Declan Van; Marleen's youngest son Patrick R. Dean and wife Danielle Brody Dean, and their son Jordan Wesley and daughter Emily Goldie. A H-U-G-E part in helping fight the hardships of this disease also included mother Jane Conroy Smith, favorite sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Allen Fellows. Marleen considered her nieces and nephews "her" kids. She felt a very special bond and connection with each and every one. Aaron (Kanesha), and twins Taylor and Lil' A and Julian Fellows, Chris, (Rebecca), Lydia and Nora Fellows, John, Hanna and Owen Fellows, as well as, Craig and Amanda Smith, Kurtis Smith, and Jenny Turner.
Marleen grew up in Newport the oldest of four children born to Roger W. Smith and Jane Conroy Smith. She is preceded in death by brothers Dean R. Smith (2017) and Scott W. Smith (2014), as well as father Roger W. Smith (1996) and mother Jane Conroy Smith (2021).
Marleen leaves behind many extended family members. With a maiden name of Smith, the family is bound to be a fine, large, grand one at that.
Marly retired in April of 2018 from Sugar River Bank after fifteen wonderful years. She leaves behind her faithful working family at the bank. The many good times and wonderful memories shared with many, close friendships and loyalty. Sugar River Bank and friends and family, THANK YOU.
Some of Marleen's most cherished memories include marrying Herb in 1998, the births and arrivals of two sons and three grandsons and one cherished granddaughter, spending Saturdays and Sundays going away for the day shopping with Jane and Lisa, the building and construction of the Barn at our farm by Herb and the boys, then best of all filling the barn with animals and raising many pets. The family get togethers at the Rand Pond Cottage. Numerous family camping, fishing, traveling, and sporting events. All trips enjoyed with the best good old Rock Music.
The very happiest of times for Marleen were the younger growing up years of John (Jay) and Patrick (Pat), supporting and watching all their sporting events: football, baseball, skiing, basketball, distance running, hurdles, high jumping, all track and field events, ski jumping and skating. The family adventures in the Jeep 4 wheeling, Hermit Island camping, swimming in our pool with the diving competitions and other adventures too numerous to mention. Thank you to my two Irish/Scottish lads. A mother's happiest, happiest moments.
Herbert Roosevelt Tellor, Jr., special thanks for being the love of my life and showing compassion and support in my last moments. Sharing the remote control, being my 24/7 private nurse was not always easy. You're the bestest.
Remember one and all, some of the best things in life are free, Mother Nature provides them. Take the time to stop, look, smell and listen. The bright orange sunrises and sunsets, the surf of the ocean and the waves pounding against the rocks, and the glorious changing of the seasons here in New England.
Take the time to search for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, search in the green grass for the four leaf clover, watch for fireflies at night during the summer, listen to the crackle of an open burning fire at the fire ring while camping, look for the sparkle of the white snow after a fresh new snowfall, the chirping and singing of the birds. Mother Nature provides us with so much and it is all free. ENJOY.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday August 6, 2022 at 12:30 PM at North Newport Cemetery followed by a party of remembrance at the Old Courthouse Restaurant from 2-5 PM to celebrate the life she lived.
Lyrics to Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
When I lay me down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky (spirit in the sky)
That's where I'm gonna go when I die (when I die)
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Prepare yourself you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky (spirit in the sky)
Oh he'll recommend you to the spirit in the sky
That's where you're gonna go when you die (when you die)
When you die and they lay you to rest
You're gonna go to the place that's the best
Never been a sinner, I never sinned
I got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He's gonna set me up
with the spirit in the sky
Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky (spirit in the sky)
That's where I'm gonna go when I die (when I die)
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best
