Marlene M. Chapman, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on September 6th, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Church of the Resurrection with Very Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Family and friends may gather at 9:00 a.m. on Friday until time of mass at the church. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family. A livestream of the funeral mass will be on the funeral home Facebook page.

Marlene was born October 6, 1937, at home on Curtis Street in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Barton) Bemis. She married Robert E. Chapman on August 2, 1958, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church.

She graduated from St. Columbkille High School in 1956 and worked in Human Resources and was the Head of Volunteers and Lifeline Program at Mercy Medical Center. She was also a member of the Dubuque Jaycee Jaynes.

Marlene enjoyed her large family gatherings, traditional holidays, and playing cards with both her high school friends and vacation group. She followed Caitlin Clark and loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and Indiana Fever. Marlene's plants were a labor of love for her. She was also happily occupied by her iPad.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bob Chapman; children, Michelle (Rich) Stender, Pam (Jeff) Thill and Connie Chapman; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Klein, Stacy (Chris) Kelley, Sarah (Matt) Weber, Amy (Carlos) Pittman, Jennifer Harjehausen, Tyler Thill, and Abigail (Marcus) McDaniel; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Doris Hingtgen and her friend Bill Sauser.

Marlene was preceded in death by her deeply missed son, David; and seven siblings.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Melahoures, ICU nurses Lynn, Chelsie, and Abbie, and nurse Lindsey in the Emergency Room at MercyOne for their exceptional care and compassion.
