Marlene Lynch Obituary

of Chelmsford, MA

Chelmsford

I am saddened to announce the passing of my beloved mom, Marlene Gail (Langlois) Lynch, who was a registered nurse, a devoted mother, and a loving wife. She left us peacefully on August 6, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was 82 years old.

Marlene was born on May 20, 1941, in Bennington, Vermont. The only daughter of Arthur Ignatius Langlois and Theresa Margaret (Fitzpatrick) Langlois. She graduated from the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing in Dorchester, Ma and earned a BA in Psychology and Sociology from New England College in Henniker, NH. She worked as a nurse for over 25 years, in charge of the operating room at St John's Hospital in Lowell, Mass for 2-3 nights per week. She was passionate about her profession and dedicated to providing compassionate care to her patients.

Marlene was the loving wife to her husband Richard "Dick" Lynch of 28 years. Marlene and Dick were active Duplicate Bridge players and were both Bronze Life Masters of the American Contract Bridge League (Marlene achieved this rank first) and participated in many regional and national ACBL bridge tournaments. As a result of Dick's work with Raytheon, she traveled extensively through the US and Europe. Coming from humble beginnings and very open to striking up conversations, she would make friends wherever she traveled. It was not uncommon for her to make some sort of connection that led back to her beginnings in Vermont. She enjoyed spending time with her family, frequently watching the grandchildren in their soccer, baseball, field hockey, youth orchestra and scouting activities. During the pandemic she enjoyed playing bridge on-line and made more friends. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, and sewing. Marlene was always cheerful, kind, and generous. She touched many lives with her warmth and wisdom.

Mom will be deeply missed by her son Rick, daughter in law Randi and grandchildren Alyssa and Sean.

I was saddened to see Marlene´s notice in today´s paper. We worked together in the OR at St. John´s many years ago. We both attended New England College for our degrees, as well. Marlene was such a pleasure to work with, always smiling and kind. She was a wonderful nurse, so smart with a great sense of humor. We lost touch over the years after I left nursing but I have such fond memories of her. I recognized our cap and then her picture and that beautiful smile before I saw her name. My sympathies are with you and your family. I remember how happy she was being your Mom. Michaelene O´Neill McCann, CLSN, `61

I'm so sorry to hear about Marlene. We always enjoyed when we'd stop to visit on our trips "home". What I remember most is her big smile and how friendly she always was to us neighborhood kids. Sending hugs to Rick and your family.
