It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Georgia (Ackerman) Meyer on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Marlene, age 88, was born on June 21, 1937, to George H. Schipper and Augusta (Maifield) Schipper in Aplington, Iowa. She grew up in and around the Kesley area and received her education and graduated from Aplington High School in 1954. After graduation Marlene worked in Waterloo for a couple years for Rath Packing in the administrative offices. She then moved back to Kesley to work in the grocery store and help her mother.
On December 12, 1957, Marlene was united in marriage with Harley Lee Ackerman at the Bethel Reformed Church of rural Aplington. The couple made their home on the Ackerman family farm north of Ackley for 36 years together. Harley and Marlene lived very busy lives on the farm raising crops, hogs, beef cattle, chickens and a barn full of dairy cows.
On May 6, 1959, Harley and Marlene welcomed a son Steven Lee Ackerman and on August 22, 1962, they also welcomed another son Stanley Dean Ackerman into their family.
Marlene was a member of the Washington Reformed Church of Ackley where she became a member of the church choir, she also later in life enjoyed singing duets with Mr. John Harms. Marlene also helped whenever possible with Sunday school, vacation Bible school and Christmas programs. After Marlene's eldest son Steven left for college in 1977, The Dairy herd was sold, and Marlene went to work off the farm and was hired as a customer service rep for the pharmacist at the Supervalu in Ackley until Dr. Hamerburg moved into his own pharmacy downtown. The pharmacy was then purchased by the Nu-Cara pharmacy where Marlene worked until she retired in 2007. After Harley passed away in 1997 Marlene began seeing some old friends to get her out of the house again. It was an old friend of Harley's and the WRC whose friendship soon became closer and during the spring of 2000 Marlene and LeRoy H. Meyer announced their engagement to their immediate families and Leroy and Marlene were joined in marriage on August 19, 2000, at the Washington Reformed Church. Their life was filled with laughter, joy, traveling, family, their ups and downs and after a very short time together, Leroy passed away on January 10, 2007, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. After the loss of Leroy, Marlene enjoyed traveling and continued traveling to see her grandchildren, step-grandchildren, traveling on trips with her dear friend, Miss Linda Woodley, to see places they probably would have never seen themselves. If those two didn't laugh or giggle about a trip they were going to go on, they probably wouldn't have gone together.
Marlene loved traveling to Arizona each winter to visit the Steves'.
Marlene is survived by her son Steven and partner Steve Bennett. Three grandchildren Bailey Ackerman and her partner, Shelby Campbell and her husband Ben of Jefferson and one grandson Dustin Ackerman of Ames, one stepson; Leon Meyer of Ackley, stepdaughters; Linda Nielsen and her husband Bob of Akron, LaVonne Witte and her husband Scott of Rock Valley, Laureen Guemmer her Husband Rick of Clinton, and stepdaughter-in-law Doreen Meyer of Aplington.
Twelve step grandchildren; Emily, Luke, Erin, Matthew, Andrew, Garret, John, Adam, Mike, Seth, Sara, Erica.
Eight great grandchildren, Barron Michaela, Desmond Michaela, Weston Michaela, Gage Tasler, Axle Tasler, Leah Campbell, Brody Campbell and Kane Campbell
One sister Dolores, Dee Alberts and her husband Robert of Cedar Falls one brother James, Jim Schipper and his wife Elaine of Ankeny, two sisters-in-law Agnes Ackerman of Ackley and Lavera Ackerman of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Harley, second husband LeRoy and son Stanley Dean and step-sons Lyle Meyer and Leland Meyer.
