Marlene Schear Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home on Apr. 26, 2023.
Marlene "Pudge" Schear, 73, of Charles City, died Friday, April 21, 2023 of cardiac arrest at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.
Marlene Rae Schear was born October 10, 1949 to Harold and Gladys (Varrelman) Orr. After graduating from Ackley-Geneva High School in 1968, she attended training and lived and worked in Hampton, Iowa.
On August 1, 1970, she was united in marriage to Mike Schear at Hampton United Methodist Church. They proudly welcomed their son, Chris, in 1973. After time in Mason City and Des Moines, Marlene and Mike moved to Charles City, where they made their permanent home.
As Chris entered school, Marlene returned to school – completing her nursing degree at NIACC. She was proud to serve her community as an EMT during her training and by providing care at Floyd County Medical Center Clinic for many years. She retired from nursing in 2002.
Anyone who knew Marlene knew how incredibly much she loved and was proud of her family. She also treasured meeting up with friends and former co-workers; cheering on her son, Chris, at his taekwondo tournaments when he was younger; catching up with everyone on the phone to get the latest "news"; going to car shows with Mike and her brother, Richard, and sister-in-law, Sheryl; shopping; and making sure every animal she ever encountered was cared for and loved. She believed very strongly in her mother's advice of always feeding any hungry animal.
Marlene is survived by her son, Chris (Jami) of West Des Moines; grandchildren: Alex, Zach, Emma and Jenna; brother, Richard (Sheryl) Orr of Warrensburg, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Mike; her parents, Harold and Gladys Orr; parents-in-law, Donald and Delores Schear; sister, Mavis Mutschler; and sister-in-law, Cindy Bejarano.
Following Marlene's wishes, there will be no services. A private family inurnment will be at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
Any memorials may be directed to the animal shelter of your choosing.
