Marlene Joyce Toogood, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at The Brook in Big Rapids, with her loving family by her side.
She was born January 10, 1937, in White Cloud, the ninth of twelve children, to Orren and Lucille (Sorden) Fowler. Marlene graduated from White Cloud High School in 1955, and was employed for several years at Gerber Products in Fremont.
On May 28, 1960, she married James Toogood, and they made their home in Norwich Township. For many years, Marlene worked for Mecosta County Extension Services. In 1984, she was elected Register of Deeds for Newaygo County, faithfully serving in that role until her retirement in 1996.
Marlene was a devoted longtime member of Trinity Fellowship EFC. For 25 years, she and Jim enjoyed wintering in Crystal River, FL, creating many cherished memories.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; her children, Cindy (Bob) Braunlich of Simsbury, CT, Rhonda Toogood of Grand Rapids, and James (Susan) Toogood of Big Rapids; grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Cruse, William Braunlich, and Bailey Brown; her brother, Richard (Joyce) Fowler of Swartz Creek; in-laws, Harold Hill, Kay Rohloff, and Alice Andrews; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by ten siblings.
Marlene will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her community service, and the warmth and kindness she shared with all who knew her.
A Celebration of Marlene's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 7, 2026, at Trinity Fellowship EFC in Big Rapids, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Marlene's memory may be made to Trinity Fellowship EFC or Hospice of Michigan. There will be a luncheon following the service at the church. Care and arrangements are entrusted to Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
