Marlene J. Weed, 87, of Fond du Lac, died Friday, August 16, 2024, peacefully at her own home. She was born on December 13, 1936, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Henry and Regina (Rautenberg) Schmidt. On February 15, 1958, she married Lyle Weed. Marlene and Lyle were members of Peace Lutheran Church in Rosendale, WI and they co-founded and were active members of Pennbrooke Community Church in Leesburg, FL. Marlene worked at A.C. Nielsen, H & R Block, and lastly, Fox Valley Savings Bank until her retirement in 1999.
Marlene lived in Fond du Lac most of her life and retired to Florida for 15 years before returning. She enjoyed playing golf in the sunshine and had six hole-in-one's. Marlene even got the opportunity to see Bob Hope play his last round of golf. Marlene and Lyle attended the famous “Ice Bowl” game at Lambeau Field watching the amazing Bart Starr touchdown in 1967. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to host family and friends. She enjoyed camping in Montello, reading, doing puzzles and playing cards (especially Sheepshead and Hand & Foot). Marlene and Lyle liked traveling with friends across the country, from New York, to Hawaii, to California and everywhere in between.
She is survived by her two children, Brett (Jean) Weed and Brenda (Jim) Fude; two grandchildren, Christopher (Dawn) Weed and Tyler (Brittany) Weed; four great-grandchildren, Eli, Ginny, Zoey, and Kenzie; sister, Carol (Jim) Laning; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Regina; husband, Lyle; and two brothers-in-law, Norman (Virginia) and David (Audrey) Weed.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the funeral home at 1:30 PM. Cremation will follow the service and private family interment will take place at Rienzi Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to SSM Hospice Home of Hope, 400 County Road K, Fond du Lac, WI, 54937.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice nurses and Comfort Keepers for their excellent care. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
