Marlynn (Weinsheimer) Barnes passed peacefully into heaven on Thursday, November 27, surrounded by her family, just as she had been throughout every step of her life. She lived fully, loved deeply, and shared her generous heart with all who knew her. Her family meant the world to her.
Marlynn embraced each day with joy and intention. Her passions, pastimes, and cherished moments were abundant: playing bridge with wonderful friends, writing thoughtful notes to those she cared about, doing puzzles and reading the paper daily, and enjoying lunches at favorite restaurants. She loved traveling on unforgettable trips with her husband, family, and friends; enjoying wine and conversation around her kitchen table; celebrating holidays with enthusiasm; decorating, talking on the phone, and watching her children and grandchildren grow. She never missed her soap operas or favorite shows and loved discussing them with like-minded friends. In every way, she lived by her favorite phrase: Carpe Diem-Seize the Day.
Marlynn's story began in Chicago, where she earned scholarships to Girls Latin High School and Vassar College. She worked at Harris Bank before marrying, starting a family, and building a vibrant, happy life. Over the years she made homes in Chicago, Des Moines, Scottsdale, Bloomfield, and spent many winters in Florida, which she especially loved. She held a special place in her heart for the Village Club and the many people-members and staff alike-who made it meaningful to her. Marlynn also loved her neighborhood, Wing Lake, birding, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra among many others.
Animals were also a beloved part of her life. She was a sister to Trixi and a loving mom to Boris, Wilbur, and Ralph, and a Grandma to Mavy, Spunky, and many others.
She is survived by her daughter Cathy (Andy) and grandchildren Katie and Tommy; her son Tom (Diane); and her nieces Barbie (Corkie), Laurie (Dave), and Christine. She is reunited in heaven with her husband Tom, her parents Linda and Ernie, her Uncle Ken, and many others who will continue to watch over those she leaves behind. She also leaves countless dear friends whose lives she touched.
No service is planned, but she will be laid to rest at Franklin Cemetery. If you ever wish to stop by and say "hi," please do. Her light will be missed, but her love will remain with us always.
If you would like to make a contribution in her memory, please consider the Village Club Foundation, Leader Dogs for the Blind, or a
