Marlys was deeply loved by her family and friends who have passed on before her. I will greatly miss the phone calls from Mom, where we would chat about everything from family to the weather. Marlys cherished her late-night conversations with her sister and reminiscing about the old days with her nephew, Kim, who would send her interesting articles about history.
In her final year, Marlys and her granddaughter Maci whom she always affectionately called "Maci Mouse" since she was born, spent precious time together while Maci attended TTU-HSC. Mom was a big supporter of Maci as she studied to pass her nursing tests. The day before she passed, Marlys learned that Maci had successfully passed the NCLEX exam and officially became an RN-BSN. Mom was incredibly proud of her granddaughter!
Maci loved spending time with her Granma. They would shop at Dillard's, her favorite department store at the Mall of Abilene, and dine at Catfish Corner, one of her favorite restaurants. The two of them enjoyed running errands around Abilene, from getting hair and nails done to grocery shopping, going to dr appointments, and visiting familiar sights in town.
Granma was loving, funny, and feisty. She always made us laugh with her unique expressions and wonderful sense of humor. Mom faced many hardships in life, including health issues due to congenital hip dysplasia, numerous surgeries, the loss of her beloved son Scott, and the passing of her husband due to illness. Despite these challenges, she managed to keep it all together with her strong faith and the power of prayer.
Our hearts are heavy, and we miss you dearly. We find comfort in our faith, knowing that you are whole again and no longer in pain, with the Lord by your side. We will meet again one day, Momma. Marlys will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rest in peace, Momma. We love you!
