Marlys R Horn, 79, Joplin, MO was called home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on October 6, 2025 surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Marlys was born on February 7, 1946 in Halstad, MN to Emanuel and Ruth (Wiese) Hoff. From an early age, she was known for her kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering faith. She lived her life with grace, generosity, and an incredible strength that inspired everyone who knew her.
Those who were blessed to know her knew she had the ability to make everyone feel seen and loved. She had a way of turning ordinary moments into cherished memories and taught those around her the true meaning of unconditional love.
Marlys is survived by her three children, David Newberry of Joplin, Cyndi (Bob) Jennings of Oronogo, Christina (Richard) Hatfield of Joplin; her 4 grandchildren, Nicholas (Sherry) Hatfield of Clarksville TN, TJ (Taylor) Owings of Webb City, Hailee (Zach) Hitchcock of Joplin, Colten Owings of Oronogo; five great-grandchildren, Laytun Hatfield, Richtun Hatfield, Natalie Owings, Lane Owings, and Barrett Hitchcock and great-niece, Sophia Turner; her 8 siblings, Doris Endorf, Lois Douthit, Phyllis Tresner, Dale (Sandra) Hoff, Wayne (Betty) Hoff, Avis (Darrell) Duncan, Nelva House, and Ardell (Roger) Bell, who will forever carry her love and lessons in their hearts.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her son, Steven Newberry, her husband, Charles Horn; and a grandson Dylan Hatfield who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.
The family will receive family and friends from 5-7pm, Thursday, October 9 at Parker Mortuary. The service will be at 10 am Friday, October 10 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin with Pastor Christopher Ramstad officiating. Burial will follow at Carl Junction Cemetery, Carl Junction, MO.
Marlys was truly one of a kind; a devoted mother, grandma, GiGi, sister, friend, a faithful servant, and a shining example of love, compassion, and perseverance. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
