Marrietta Louise Comer, 82, of Perry, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – Perry Chapel. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
Marrietta was born December 10, 1942, in Cass County, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Louise (Christensen) Harmsen. On October 31, 1969, she married the love of her life, John Comer, in Boone, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with three children: Tony, Clinton, and Shawna.
Marrietta worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Woodward State Hospital before her well-deserved retirement in 1974. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing bingo, and she loved fishing. She was devoted to caring for others, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, Marrietta treasured time spent with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Comer of Perry; son, Clinton (Rebecca) Comer of Adel; grandchildren: Samantha (Dylan) Wasson of Urbandale, Brandon Stucker (Jennifer) of Moran, John Stucker (Nicole) of Grimes, Jarrett Stucker (Bre) of Grimes, Brady Stucker (NataLeigh) of Grimes, Molly Comer of Adel, Weston Comer of Adel, and Wyatt Comer of Adel; great-grandchildren: Maggi, Sophia, and Henry Wasson, and Hunter and Kasey Stucker; brother, Dr. Howard (Janice) Harmsen of St. Joseph, Missouri; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Marrietta was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Louise Harmsen; son, Tony Comer; daughter, Shawna Stucker; and brother, Jerry Harmsen.
