Marsha Velders Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Home - Yorkville on Sep. 18, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Marsha Kay (Kuehl) Velders, age 85, of Yorkville, Illinois, passed away on September 17, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones in her home. She was born on April 9,1940 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Douglas and Violet Kuehl. She attended Lyons Township High School and was always an excellent student. She received a Medical Technology degree from Michigan State University.

Marsha met the love of her life, Richard Wells "Dick" Velders when they smiled across the Chemistry Hall at MSU. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1961 and enjoyed 64 years of romance and devotion.

Marsha was a consummate homemaker and provided outstanding meals for her husband and children every night. She was so talented at decorating their home that it was featured in the newspaper on more than one occasion. Marsha highly valued education and passed that discipline and respect on to all her children. She was prudent and wise at budgeting and investing and Dick has always credited Marsha with their financial security. Marsha also partnered with Dick to run his successful veterinary practice in Burr Ridge, Illinois where she acted in many capacities including bookkeeper and lab technician.

In her younger days, Marsha was highly competitive on the racquetball court, left everyone in her dust on roller blades, and hiked mountains and volcanoes with Dick. She was confined to a wheelchair the final 8 years of her life but was never one to complain. She took peace in knowing Jesus was waiting for her in Heaven and that her once active and healthy body would be fully restored.

In her later years, Marsha provided unconditional love to her children and grandchildren and was their biggest cheerleader. She and Dick made the holidays special and memorable for all of them and she always cracked up her grandchildren with her quick wit. She had a tender heart toward animals and was a doting dog Mom to her beloved pets, Moose and Poney.

In recent years, Marsha and Dick have been surrounded in love and support by their dear brothers and sisters in Christ at New Life Church in Yorkville.

Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Violet Kuehl, her in-laws George and Nina Velders, her older brother Jack (Renee) Kuehl and Jack's daughter, Diane Ruby.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her dearly loved husband, Richard W. Velders, her three children Scott Velders, Jenny (Terry) Brown and Allison (Dan) VanDerMolen, her 9 grandchildren Cole Velders and Emerik Kysar, Maddie, Caidan (Sierra) and Devyn Brown and Tommy, Jack, Sara and Anna VanDerMolen. She is also survived by her older sister Phyllis (Richard) Starkey, her younger sister Karen (John) Barworth, her sisters-in-law Sandra (Tom) Giblin and Pamela (Brian) McLenithan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Monetary Donations made in Marsha's memory can be sent to New Life Church of Yorkville at 3205 Cannonball Trail, Yorkville, IL 60560.
