Marshall Feldman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 3, 2026.
Marshall Feldman, 83, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026. Marshall was born in Warren, Pennsylvania to Abraham and Blanche Feldman. Compassionate and helpful with a positive outlook, Marshall took pride in supporting his country, community, neighbors and family.

After graduating from Warren High School, Marshall served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. Following honorable discharge from the Army, he moved to New York City and then Maryland to pursue work in insurance and retail, respectively. Ultimately, Marshall's career took him to Newport News.

Marshall was a strong advocate and never hesitated to act on his convictions. As a firm supporter of the civil rights movement, he participated in several marches in the 1960s and was a longstanding member of the NAACP.

Entrepreneurial by nature, he owned and operated small businesses, including a women's retail clothing store, Kreger's, in Washington, D.C. Most recently, Marshall founded and served as president of Best Collection Agency for over 40 years. Driven by a sense of decency, he always showed kindness and grace to debtors, enabling them to pay their creditors with dignity.

As a proud Army veteran, Marshall was a member of Denbigh American Legion Post 368 where he was a tireless volunteer for many years. He was often the first to volunteer to help with events, especially bingo nights, and participated in other activities to raise funds for veterans. Marshall was instrumental in selecting and presenting educational grants to local students on behalf of the Post, and was honored as Legionnaire of the Month. Marshall also helped the community by providing volunteer phone support for the CONTACT crisis line on the Peninsula where he counseled callers who were struggling with emotional distress.

Marshall was the son of an immigrant, and proud of his Russian Jewish heritage. He was a board member of Gaithersburg Hebrew Congregation in Maryland and enjoyed the cultural traditions and fellowship. Always the life of the party, Marshall enjoyed holiday celebrations immensely, known to start a Cossack dance on a whim. He was a master of one-liners and "Dad jokes", and was always eager to engage in silliness, mischief and fun.

Soft-spoken and unfailingly courteous, Marshall was a reliable and trustworthy man who always kept his word, lifted others up, and fiercely defended those without a voice - values he instilled deeply in his children. Having an infallible work ethic, kindness and generosity, Marshall lived his life with integrity and unwavering ethics.

During his spare time, Marshall enjoyed watching Redskins football games, Duke basketball games, and NASCAR races, reading, fishing, and shooting pool with friends. He competed in league tournaments at the Obelisk, earning first place honors several times.

Devoted father of Valerie Frank (Rob) and Dena Feldman, supportive sibling of Judy Stern (Rob) and Bob Feldman (Linda Nevaldine), proud uncle of Jess Collins (Nate), and loyal friend to many, Marshall will be greatly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Weymouth Funeral Home with an American Legion Rites Ceremony. The Legion Motorcycle Riders Procession will accompany Marshall to a 1:00 p.m. graveside service at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran's Cemetery with Military Honors.
