Marshall Holder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boren-Conner Funeral Home - Jacksonville from Mar. 14 to Mar. 15, 2023.
Marshall Vincent Holder born September 28, 1935 in Austin, Texas died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family.

Marshall was preceded in death by his late wife, and partner, Maxine Holder. During their 57 years of marriage, they raised two daughters, Shelley Echtle and husband Danny, of Forney, Texas and Laura Graham of Katy, Texas. He also enjoyed his grandchildren, Jennifer Welch, Stephanie Leggett, Jacob Norman, Brett Graham, Carissa Soriano, Landon Graham and Reece Graham, as well as his 16 great-grandchildren.

Marshall served in the US Navy from 1955-1958 on the USS Saratoga, becoming a plank owner during that time. After leaving the Navy Marshall gained employment with Tenneco Chemicals, a job he stayed at for 38 years until he retired to raise emus in Rusk, Texas. He was strong and steadfast during his late wife's illness, never wavering in his dedication and fighting to get her the best care possible, something his family in turn did for him when the time arose.

He was a faithful serving deacon, and board member, at his church, The Church of the Nazarene congregation for many years. Throughout his life, he lived by the bible verse of Isaiah 40:31: "But for those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Many people will remember Marshall as a gentle man with cutting wit, sparkling blue eyes and a smile that lit up the room. He had never met a stranger a day in his life; in Marshall's company you felt welcomed and respected, if only for the moment.

Marshall will be laid to rest alongside his wife at the Starr Cemetery in Elkhart.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at The Church of the Nazarene, 1709 Beaumont, Jacksonville, Texas. Viewing at 1 pm with services to follow immediately at 2 pm. Flowers can be sent to Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville, ahead of the viewing.
