Marta Markowski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Higgins Home for Funerals, Inc. on Mar. 15, 2026.
Marta Markowski passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, strength, and quiet determination that shaped all who knew and loved her.

Marta was born on June 11, 1925, in Plock, Poland. Her early life was marked by unimaginable hardship. At the age of 13, during the horrors of World War II, she was taken by the German Gestapo and forced into Germany, where she spent the remainder of her youth. Though these experiences were deeply painful, they also revealed the extraordinary resilience and inner strength that would define Marta throughout her life.

In time, Marta married her first husband and moved to the United States, where they made their home on the west side of New York City. After their marriage ended, Marta would go on to meet the true love of her life, Alexander. The two were married and shared many happy years together, living in the Bronx before Marta later moved to Berkeley Heights to be closer to her beloved niece, Maria.

Marta was an intelligent, hardworking, and remarkably strong woman whose perseverance carried her through every chapter of life. She built a successful career as a bank manager for Citibank on Wall Street, where she was respected for her professionalism, dedication, and sharp mind.

Outside of her work, Marta had a deep and abiding love of reading, especially books about history. She had an incredible thirst for knowledge and often wondered why others did not share the same passion for learning that brought her such joy. She also had a great love for music, which remained one of life's enduring pleasures.

Marta was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alexander.

She is survived by her loving niece, Maria, and Maria's husband, John, along with all those whose lives were touched by her strength, wisdom, and enduring spirit.

Funeral services will be held privately. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.

Marta Markowski odeszla spokojnie, pozostawiajac po sobie dziedzictwo wytrwalosci, sily oraz cichej determinacji, które uksztaltowaly wszystkich, którzy ja znali i kochali.

Marta urodzila sie 11 czerwca 1925 roku w Plocku, w Polsce. Jej wczesne zycie naznaczone bylo niewyobrazalnymi trudnosciami. W wieku 13 lat, podczas okrucienstw II wojny swiatowej, zostala zabrana przez niemieckie Gestapo i wywieziona do Niemiec, gdzie spedzila pozostale lata swojej mlodosci. Choc byly to doswiadczenia niezwykle bolesne, ujawnily one równiez niezwykla odpornosc i wewnetrzna sile, które mialy charakteryzowac Marte przez cale jej zycie.

Z czasem Marta poslubila swojego pierwszego meza i wyjechala do Stanów Zjednoczonych, gdzie zamieszkali w zachodniej czesci Nowego Jorku. Po zakonczeniu tego malzenstwa Marta poznala prawdziwa milosc swojego zycia, Aleksandra. Oboje pobrali sie i spedzili razem wiele szczesliwych lat, mieszkajac w dzielnicy Bronx, zanim Marta przeprowadzila sie pózniej do Berkeley Heights, aby byc blizej swojej ukochanej siostrzenicy, Marii.

Poza praca Marta miala gleboka milosc do czytania, szczególnie ksiazek historycznych. Miala ogromne pragnienie zdobywania wiedzy i czesto zastanawiala sie, dlaczego inni nie podzielaja tej samej pasji do nauki, która przynosila jej tyle radosci. Wielka przyjemnosc sprawiala jej równiez muzyka, która pozostawala jedna z trwalych radosci jej zycia.

Marta byla wczesniej poprzedzona w smierci przez swojego ukochanego meza, Aleksandra.

Pozostawia pograzona w zalobie swoja ukochana siostrzenice Marie oraz jej meza Johna, a takze wszystkich tych, których zycie zostalo dotkniete jej sila, madroscia i niezlomnym duchem.

Uroczystosci pogrzebowe odbeda sie w gronie najblizszej rodziny. Msza swieta w intencji zmarlej zostanie odprawiona w pózniejszym terminie.
