Marta Ruth Taylor passed on peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in her Corpus Christi home.
In her early life, Marta served as a lieutenant in the US Army as a nurse and later went on to obtain her Master's degree to practice as a Nurse Practitioner. Marta was incredibly proud to be a commissioned officer in The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), a group created in May 1942 and later converted to the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1943. The WAAC was the US Army's first official women's branch during WWII and was aimed to free up men for combat by filling noncombat roles like clerks, mechanics, medical personnel, and drivers. Anyone who knew Marta can attest to her love of the beach and playing piano for services at Island in the Son Methodist Church, where she met numerous friends who will miss her dearly. She also relished spending time with her "greats and great-greats", talking about them with everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her parents (Charles and Devona Taylor), husband (John Taylor), and daughter (Rebecca Martin).
Marta will be greatly missed by her sister (Carole Wilson), grandson (Justin Schlichting), step-children and their families (John Taylor Jr., William Taylor, Elizabeth "Jane" Smith, Robert Taylor, and Jacquieline Marden), and her great-granddaughters, along with their families (Elizabeth "Libby" Adkins, Jessica Moreno, and Kayla Briggs). In addition to her closest family, Marta is also survived by numerous other extended family members and friends, both in Texas and Indiana.
While her family is deeply saddened by the loss of her wonderful soul, they are relieved to know that she is finally at peace.
A private family service will be held in Indiana, where she will be placed for rest with her late husband.
