Martha Elizabeth Askew, 56, of Wilburton, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
Marty was born on June 24, 1969, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Edward Askew and Elizabeth (Reeves) Askew.
Diagnosed at an early age with cerebral palsy, Marty faced life with remarkable courage and determination. She never allowed her challenges to define her but instead worked tirelessly to live a full and independent life. Marty graduated from Norman High School with the Class of 1989-a milestone she achieved through her perseverance and strength. She lived several years at the J.D. McCarty Center in Norman, where she developed the skills that helped her flourish in independence. It was there that she also discovered her lifelong love for all things Garth Brooks and OU Football! She later married and lived on her own, embracing life with confidence and joy.
Marty will be remembered as a true angel-gentle in her actions, kind in her words, and blessed with a beautiful singing voice that touched those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Edward Askew; and her sister, Sandra Askew.
Marty is survived by her brother, John Askew; sisters: Barbara Murray, Gloria Askew, Ellen Jeffrey and husband, Johnny, and Angie Askew; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Latimer County Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice for the compassionate care and love shown to Marty.
The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Jones-Harkins Funeral Home Chapel.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Centerpoint Cemetery with Chaplain Jeff Little officiating. Burial will follow.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Jeffrey, Dominick Thompson, Payton Brewer, Chris Thompson, Paul Karstens, and Kenneth Carter.
