She was born on May 2, 1936, in Johnston County, NC, to the late Brutus and Betty Mae Hooks.
Martha received her early education at Short Journey and Johnston County Training School, and later graduated from Barnes Business School in Raleigh, NC. She dedicated many years of service as a receptionist for Walter and Richmond Sanders Funeral Home, where she was known for her kindness and warm spirit.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Woods, and her brother, James Hooks.
Martha leaves to cherish her memory: her granddaughter, Batina Woods; son-in-law, James Woods; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Viewing: Monday September 29, 2025, at the Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield, NC., from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
Funeral Services: Tuesday September 30, 2025, at the Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield, NC at 11:30 am, with viewing from 11:00 am until 11:30 am.
