Martha Jean Smith Barnes, 68, resident of Hampshire, died Friday, September 26, 2025 at St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Ricky Clay and Rev. Tim McGehee officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Theta. The family will visit with friends Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Martha was born on March 10, 1957 in Williamson County, Tennessee to the late Dorothy Elizabeth Smith. On September 28, 1984 she married Micheal Ted Barnes and he preceded her in death on November 27, 2017. She was an avid reader, loved watching crime shows, enjoyed bird watching and wildlife. Martha was a long time member of Theta Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Michelle (Mike) Rochester, Layne (Lindsey) Barnes, and Jessica (Jason) Roberts; grandchildren, Shawn (Emily) Rochester, Wesley (Jordan) Rochester, Raymond (Brittney) Rochester, Bryson Barnes, Thatcher Barnes, Wesley (Kirsten) Roberts, Colton Roberts, Alissa Roberts, and Remington Roberts; great grandchildren, Wyatt Rochester, Whitley Rochester, and Casen Roberts; brother in law and sister in law, Tim and Kim McGehee.
In addition to her mother and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Mildred Culberson.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
