Martha Barr

Martha Jean Haney Barr, 82, of Newberry, widow of William Larry Barr, died March 28, 2026.

Born on July 27, 1943 in Indian Branch, Darlington County, she was the daughter of the late James Howard and Martha Andrews Haney. She was a graduate of Carolina College of Commerce and retired from Newberry County Public Schools. Martha had a deep love for children and was a teacher's assistant at Boundary Street Elementary School and at Newberry Junior High School. Mrs. Barr was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She is survived by her daughters, Tara (Larry) Stephens of Timmonsville and Andrea (David) White of Hodges; a brother, Dr. Howard Wayne Haney of Surfside Beach; grandsons, Caleb (McKenna) White, Hunter White, Ethan White, and Brody White; and 2 great-grandchildren, Declan White and Ellowynn White.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends on hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Missionary Fund, 2 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Active pall bearers will be Richard Black, Caleb White, Brody White, Larry Stephens, David White, Adam Templin, and Jared Templin.

Honorary pall bearers will be Kenneth and Harriet Waites, Ethan White and Hunter White.
