Martha Sue "Marty" Berg-Peck, 80, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 3:20 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2025 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
Marty was born October 18, 1944 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Harold S. and Claudene (Crocker) Cottom. Marty married Larry D. Berg. Together they had three children. She later married Lawrence R. Peck on June 26, 1986 in Galesburg. Larry preceded Marty in death on June 18, 2021. Marty is survived by her three children, Sherry (Gaylon) Edwards-Webb of Galesburg, Nicole (Craig) Brandenburg of Knoxville, Illinois, and Michael Berg of Victoria, Illinois. Marty is also survived by four grandchildren, Bradley and Johnathan Edwards and Jake and Lucas Brandenberg; one great granddaughter; and one brother, Ron Cottom of Wataga, Illinois. Along with her parents and husband, Marty was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Harold Dean Cottom; and two sisters, Rita Chism and Margaret "Peggy" Lewis.
Marty grew up mostly in Oneida and the area, eventually moving to Galesburg. Marty worked for 35 years at Centel which later became Century Link, retiring in 2014. Marty had a good christian faith and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville. She enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was boating at Oak Run, gardening, jogging in her younger years, simply sitting on her deck at her home. Marty served on the board of directors at the YMCA at both the original facility and the current one. Marty enjoyed canning her garden vegetables, as well as having cats in her home.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday September 18, 2025 at Oneida Cemetery, Oneida, Illinois. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to Critter Cove.
