Martha Ann Brockmeyer (nee Davis), age 76, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026, in
Springfield, Missouri. Martha was born to Harrison Lloyd Davis and Ollie Nadine (nee Forbey) Davis. Raised in Pond, Missouri, the family later moved to Ellisville, where Martha graduated from Lafayette High School. Martha was united in marriage to Charles Joseph Brockmeyer in the fall of 1989; they shared 27 years together before Charlie's untimely death from cancer. Martha and Charlie shared Martha's four children from her previous marriage; Sonja, Paula, John, and David.
Martha worked for years as a business administrator, with a humble beginning in the steno pool at the Department of the Army Records Center on Page Avenue in St Louis. In later years, Martha worked her way up from packing orders on the warehouse floor to become the Executive Vice President of Operations at Mathews Book Company and McCoy Health Science Supply. Although she retired early from that career, she was never a stone to grow moss; she returned to work as an executive assistant to the President of Interthinx before her full retirement. Martha was an extremely organized, performance-based individual both on and off the job. In addition to EVPO, she also earned the title "Dragon Lady" from her teenage sons; both of whom have grown to become goal oriented, performance-based individuals both on and off the job, under her tutelage.
Her hobbies included raising plants and flowers, cooking, reading, and interior design and decoration. She and Charlie remodeled her childhood home as well as a home next to her sister, Evelyn. Martha was an incredible hostess and Charlie built her a world class kitchen for entertaining and family gatherings in their last remodel. When her children were younger, Martha sewed a lot – bedroom sets, coats, drapes, and outfits for her daughters, including mother/daughter sets for holidays. She and Charlie spent countless hours on home improvement and enjoyed their homes immensely; staying close to her sister, Evelyn, and his mother, Nina, were important to them.
Martha traveled for work while at Mathews / McCoy and Charlie would join her at destinations when possible. When they did take a break from it all, they would often vacation at Table Rock Lake, with Charlie fishing and Martha reading on their pontoon boat. They enjoyed a life together well spent. One of Martha's passions was history, an interest she picked up from her parents. Her library and reading list included books about American History, the Presidents of the United States, and the evolution of Christianity. She enjoyed discussing history and politics and disliked gossip.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Nadine; her brothers, Wayne Belue and Paul Davis; her sisters, Evelyn Belue Brannaker and Deborah Davis Carpenter; her daughter, Paula; and her only grandchild, Sabrina Hargis Bonfiglio. She is survived by her daughter, Sonja Muir Hargis; son, John Muir; and son, David (Kelly) Muir. She is also survived by her great-granddaughters, Inabelle and Irene Bonfiglio; her nephew, Chris (Wendy) Brannaker; and her nephews, Jeremy and Brian Carpenter.
A family memorial will follow in May of 2026, where she will be interred at St. John's United Church of Christ in Manchester, Missouri. She will be buried next to her husband, Charlie.
