Martha Cook-Hungate passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025. She was surrounded by her family and friends at her home in Houston.

A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, August 7, 2025. The service will be held at her church home, Houston’s First Baptist Church (7401 Katy Freeway). Private interments will be held in Franklin, Texas and Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Martha was born on September 22, 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen Goodman-Moore, Walter Wesley Moore and WM Cook. Additionally, her brothers, David Cook, Chuck Moore and his wife Molly, and numerous aunts and uncles.

She adored her hometown of Bryan, her family and friends and her childhood church home, Central Baptist. Martha accepted Jesus as a young girl and was baptized at Central. While growing up, she spent considerable time with her grandparents in Franklin. Soon after Tammy was born, Martha moved to Brenham to begin a working career in banking. Rob was born while in Brenham and she called it home until 1991 when she moved full time to Houston. In Houston, she was a small business owner and spent many years with BP/Technip until she retired. Because of her city and country roots, Martha had a passionate work ethic that she passed to her family and countless friends.

Jesus, family and friends were Martha’s focus, and in that order. She lived out the Great Commission in every way and, as Scripture instructs, loved to be the hands and feet of Jesus. She was a true Biblical servant and enjoyed every opportunity to help others. Even when she was sick, she would share the Good News with doctors, nurses and fellow patients. Her personal relationship with Jesus was the cornerstone of her life.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Tammy Ross and son, Rob Hungate and his wife, Jenifer. Grandchildren Cory Hungate, Elyse Morgan and her husband, Jack and great-granddaughter, Emma Brooke (EB) Morgan. Additionally, brother Richard Cook and his wife, Claire and her sister, Beverly Bannister. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her amazing group of friends and the 1962 Senior Class at Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan.

The family thanks surgeon, Dr. Steve Bynon, for taking such great care of Martha. His skill, attention and kindness will never be forgotten by us. Dr. Bynon has left an enormous impact on our family. Memorials may be sent to the Kerr County Disaster Relief Fund at Houston’s First Baptist Church.
