Martha Jane (House) Durand, age 81, of Oxford, Georgia, went to Heaven on Saturday, June 14, 2025. She was born to the late Ben Luther and Margaret Almeda House on November 15, 1943, at Huson Hospital, in Covington, Georgia. She was a proud member of the Newton County High School Class of ’61.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, extremely proud grandmother, and cherished sister. Martha was known for her humor, compassion, and servant’s heart but most of all, her love for the Lord. She was a talented singer who spent most of her life singing about the One who gave His life for her. She loved anything she could nurture such as flowers and vegetable gardens. What she loved most was time with her family, simply being together made her heart happy. Although we rejoice for her as she has received her reward, we grieve, but not as those who have no hope. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sister-in-law, Harold House and Billy and Myrtle House; sister Kathryn House; brother-in-law, Thomas Maloy; granddaughter, Allena Bright; great-niece Emily Susanne Gregory and great-nephews, Danny Black and Will Gregory.
Those surviving to cherish her memory, husband of 55 years, Bruce Durand of Oxford; daughter Hope Bright of Kingsport, TN; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Barry Chupp of Oxford; daughter Leslie Durand of Porterdale; granddaughter Cori Gilliam of Kingsport, TN; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Bailey and Garrett Myers of Social Circle; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Nickie House of Gainesville; sister-in-law, Linda Maloy of Monroe; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; loyal childhood friend, Peggy Stallings and constant and cherished best friend, Marlyne Carr.
