Martha F. (Hanley) Gleason, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on April 6, 1946, in Boston, MA, Martha's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and the profound impact she had on those around her. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert "Stevie" Gleason, with whom she shared a cherished union that began in 1966 until his passing in 2010.
Martha's legacy is lovingly carried on by her devoted children: Stephen Gleason and his wife Erin of Canton, Patrick Gleason of Hyde Park, Elizabeth Gleason of Hyde Park, and she holds in her heart the memory of her late daughter Tara Gleason. She was the treasured sister of Nancy Degloria of Hyde Park and John Hanley and his wife Marilyn of Framingham. Her role as "Grama Doo" to Caitlyn and Sean Gleason was one of her greatest joys, and her nurturing love extended to her many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who survive her.
A proud graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Roxbury, Martha's compassionate nature led her to nursing school, where she cultivated her calling to care for others. She worked as a dedicated nurse until she decided to devote herself fully to raising her family after the birth of her daughter Tara. Martha's commitment to her faith and community was evident through her over 50 years of service at Mission Church, where alongside Fr. McDonough and Fr. Lennon, she offered solace and prayers over the phone to those in need. An important member of St. Pius X Church in Milton, she lived her Catholic faith with grace and conviction.
Martha's interests were a reflection of her love for life and the people in it. She had an enduring fondness for the beach and cherished the memories created during the annual two-week summer retreats she hosted for her family on Cape Cod. Her home was the heart of many celebrations, including the much-anticipated New Year's Eve party that became a treasured tradition. Martha's zest for life shone brightly when she went out dancing with friends, and she embraced every opportunity to spend time with her beloved extended family during the holidays.
Martha's grandchildren, Caitlin and Sean, were the light of her life. She was their most enthusiastic supporter, always looking forward to their sports events, dance recitals, and adventures. Martha's presence was a source of warmth and encouragement, and her kind and faith-filled nature will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In every sense, Martha F. (Hanley) Gleason was the embodiment of a loving and kind spirit. Her faith-filled life was a beautiful journey that touched many hearts, and her memory will be cherished forever as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Martha's absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to feel the embrace of her love.
